Snow Day for Us~

SO much excitement echoed though the house when everyone woke to see~
a dusting of snow covering our yard!
Flocking to the windows, they planned what they would do when breakfast was done
and we had dug out the VERY few snow clothes we own!

It wasn't long before we all dressed in pjs, jeans, two shirts, two pairs of socks
and standing by a bin as we chose coats, hats, and gloves for everyone then boots.
Into the yard they went and allowed me a few photos~
They chased their dad with snowballs, built snow towers,
and just enjoyed WINTER!~

The kids loved the little snowman their dad build on the hood of his truck~
and it made it all the way to Walmart and back home!!!

Once back in we pulled out Snowflake Bentley
and enjoyed a School Snow Day!!!

School on the Road~

We had the joy of spending the day with BC so we Schooled on the Road!
I grabbed the IPads and Mr. Popper's Penguins~
We were a little over halfway through the book so we read two chapters
and listened by Audible every hour to finish it up.

One chapter listed all the penguins so we wrote them down
and made up some games.
We also made a list of names in our family
and sorted the two lists with boys/girls for little kids.
EK and SJ worked on ABC order with both lists
and copied them for copywork~
I was amazed that the little 4 could read lots of the names on the list~
Boys:

Bitty Girls:
The time between games and listening to the story was spent IPadding.
.
Cool seeing EK and SJ reading along with the book
while we listened with Audible~
The celebration to the whole day...
Watching the movie on the way home!!!
We LOVE Mr. Popper's Penguins!!!

Thankful Thursday~ {Winter}

Our morning began with a little puzzle that (yes!) I picked up at $1 spot...
They have all loved it even if it is so simple for everyone except Holly~
But with Evie being her K teacher :), she is learning quickly!!!

For math today, the boys had to count sets and choose the correct numeral.
Pretty easy for them but when I began asking them to SHOW me an amount with their fingers.
they had to count it out.
I took some time working with them...
They finally started to use counting up and on skills-
{very abstract thinking for them)~
I had them sit knee to knee and call numbers for each other.
It was a win win because for them to check each other they had to know themselves.
LOTS of laughing and learning while working together!

For Activity Time (as they have begun to call it)
We reread The Snowy Day and discovered we had three copies
so SJ asked if she could read with me.
She read a page and I read a page~
I think it will always be one of the boys favorite books!
I also read a non fiction about Winter~
and we made our own list of things that happen in Winter to make our own littles books~
~wear winter clothes
~build a snowman
~play basketball
~build fires
~build a snowman
~build a snowman
{I know... that song again}
Thankful for another wonderful day learning with this crew!!!

Winter Fun Friday~

Our week was pretty non eventful...
just continued our normal routine with a few Winter books thrown in for fun.
Today we woke up to pretty frigid temps so I decided we would learn about thermometers and temperature~
EK asked if we could sit a bowl of water out on the step to see if it would freeze... watched all day but no ice.
We also watched what happened to ice in the sun then put the melted water back in the freezer.
Amazing how such a simple experiment can make even Evie understand solids and liquids.

Our first book of the day was A Snowy Day and we created our own thermometers to manipulate~

EK ran to get her snow globe so we decided to make our own~
As we read Polar Bear, Polar Bear, EK used the Globe pen to let us hear each animal sound... very cool!

We did a little dancing to The Freeze and others~
Had a little snack and called it a Winter Fun Friday.
Next week~

When Winter Comes~

We read When Winter Comes and made a list of ways we know it is winter outside~
EK and SJ have experienced snow so they are really hoping we get some this year.
We pulled out some coffee filters and made snowflakes~
We tried really hard to cut them all exactly the same. :)
Just like us... NO snowflake is identical!

Psalm 139:14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.

{Saved the snowflakes to be used with Snowflake Bentley!}

Birthdays, Stitches, and a Wedding~

Rosie and Leighton celebrated their birthdays four days apart, and we had a ball at Leighton's Magical Unicorn Waterslide 4 YO party~ It...
