One of our Wild Explorer lessons challenged us to go out and find constellations in the night sky.
To give us practice inside, we created telescopes using toilet rolls~
Everyone decorated with tissue paper, then we printed constellations and poked holes for stars~
It was SO much fun pointing them toward the window and seeing the stars~
We can even find some of them out at night too!

Nature Study~
Remember all the caterpillars we found this past weekend?
EK could not stop searching her Nature guides and books~
So we ran with it today by pulling all our books, enjoying a scavenger hunt for Luna Moth facts on our IPods (idea from Julie @ Brave Writer),
and watching our latest Wild Explorer Club video~
As they found facts about Luna Moths, I wrote them on our white board
then everyone sketched for their nature journals (which is our WEC assignment)~
Again everyone worked on their own level and created a beautiful entry for the day.
The afternoon will be spent exploring nature out in our yard just like they every day!

Wild Explorer Wednesday~ {First Day of Fall}
Today was the first day of Fall so we celebrated with books~
Exploring outside searching for fallen leaves~
Spending time in the 'hideout'~
And creating art on the breezeway~
We each shaved fall colored crayons onto wax paper then folded to melt with the iron.
Once cooled, we traced leaf shapes and cut out beautiful fall leaves~
Then we read Leaf Man and created the cutest leaf creatures~
We laminated them and added to our Art Story Notebooks~
Happy Fall Y'all!!!

Our School Week~
Tuesday was our first Poetry Teatime with Calla, and she thoroughly enjoyed it~
Our read aloud for now is Because of Winn Dixie.
We have loved reading and comparing to the movie.
EK and SJ follow along while I read as well as take turns reading a chapter for us~
Wednesday is Nature Day, and we still LOVE Wild Explorers Club.
This week we were to draw maps, and they turned out great of our yard~
Our memory verses are so fun this year since we added music.
This week I found the beanbags and we marched around balancing on our heads~

Galatians 6:9
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good.
At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

A Sabbath Week~
There is a thought in the homeschooling world that schooling for 6 weeks and resting for 1 keeps a peaceful, restful crew.
It is endearingly referred to a Sabbath Week: A week to rest, refuel, and refresh the family.
Because we pretty much school year round
and honestly think we have been going since the beginning of July on this new year
and we had a busy dr/BC week, it was the perfect time for our Sabbath.
As the week wore on, it was hard to keep a strict no learning rule
because these children truly thrive on a routine such as our Wild Explorer Nature Wednesday!
Our assignment for the week was to choose a hiking stick, strip it, and smooth out for our walks.
Daddy was totally in charge of this~
Friday night we instituted a Brave Writer idea of Friday Family Movie Night.
I chose Because of Winn Dixie because it will be our read aloud next week.
I thought it would be a great idea to have images in their minds as they listened.
They loved it~
Amelia helped us make our hiking sticks personally awesome with branded names on them~
They turned out beautifully~
SO even though we were on Sabbath, we were learning too!!!

Wild Explorer Club~
We have jumped on the Wild Explorers Club bandwagon~
I am at a point of homeschooling where I need some things to be easy and planned for me~
Wild Explorers is an online program that allows families to complete fun assignments and earn nature badges.
We get a video and assignment dropped into our inbox each week~
Our first week we were to pack an explorer backpack (Done)
and this week explore nature around you~
We of course slipped into our rain boots and headed down the path to the lake
where we found a receding shoreline, arrowheads, and caterpillars!
When our snacks were gone and everyone was hot,
we headed inside to watercolor our outing~
I printed our welcome letter, assignments, and a photo of our fun then created a notebook~
It will take us two years to make it through the whole thing.
Wonder if we will make it that long?
The kids LOVE it for now and so do I!
