Morning Work~

Every moring we begin our day with a Bible story. Some mornings EK reads and the next SJ.
The girls have bible notebooks they do copywork in and illustrate~
and the other three have name notebooks~
They trace and sound out their name to me. I add some other skill to the bottom... maybe shapes, numbers, letters, etc. Over the last months we have created a keepsake of the progress they are making with this skill. Both boys can spell, sound, and write their name due to the repetition. Evie... working on it. :) Once first names are mastered, we will begin last and middle.

Other really fun thing we do each day is sing each name to 'Bingo'~

There is boy that we all love and Will is his name-O,
W-I-L-L,
W-I-L-L,
W-I-L-L,
And Will is his name-O.

They are learning to spell each other's names too so that kind of compounds the number of letters they are learning.
A Great way to begin our day!

Morning Bible Time~

I know I have shared about our Morning Bible Time but wanted to share a really wonderful resource we added.
In addition to our Bible story, writing and drawing about our daily Bible verse, we have been using Steve Smith's Hide 'em in your Heart CDs. The kids LOVE them and I hear them singing scripture all day long~
And the really wonderful thing is I raised my big girls on these songs and they can still sing them today...
They really are 'Hidden in their Hearts'!!!

Matt 19:14
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

Morning Routine and Reading Time~

Each morning it is SJ's job to choose a new state for the day.
I think one of the best things EK ever got for her birthday was this talking globe~ they LOVE it!
After choosing the state, the girls work together to find it on the globe and then on the flat world map.
They have their own US map in their calendar notebooks and color the new state in.
LOVE when they hear a state someplace and immediately know if they have colored it in or not.
WP usually chooses something off his shelf to do as well... this day he was working on matching uppercase letters.

During reading EK and SJ have a reading drawer with their reading items inside.
While I am reading with one, the other is doing word work.
This week I introduced Scrabble to EK but in a revised way:
*we set up the board and dumped the letters
*chose a sight word from her cannister
*we both made a word somewhere on the board
*added up our letters to see which word won
After all words had been made, we saw who had the most word points.
Later on, we will play for real but for now this works great!

SJ's sight words this week have been color words.
She has practiced matching color sticks to words and today I wrote the words in pencil on paper.

She had to match the word to a dot painter and dot each letter of the word.
SO fun learning new words and they can't wait to do more tomorrow!

Birthdays, Stitches, and a Wedding~
