A 'Pump'tacular Day~

Today was all about pumpkins...

We read books until my voice was going with The Parable of the Pumpkin

being our favorite every year.

Using storytelling pieces we narrated the life cycle of a pumpkin~

 Then made our own little books for our journals~

 Every day Evie asks me if we are going to paint

and today I made it all about art in the kitchen with pumpkin cupcakes~

 Pumpking carving... Fred. :)~

 Toasting pumpkin seeds and making lunch... personal pumpkin pizzas~

We have a big evening planned with Monster Mash in town,

family over for vegetable soup and cupcakes, then trick-or-treating.

Wonderful Wednesday {Pumpkin Carving Day}~

Today we took a field trip through the book A Day at the Pumpkin Patch and learned all about the pumpkin life cycle.

After all our regular school stuff was done,

we headed out to carve our pumpkin~

 Everyone tried to pick it up but just couldn't do it.

We weighed it and would you believe it weighed exactly the same as Evie? Ha

Next we labeled the parts we could see: stem, rind, ribs, and blossom end. Next we measured how tall it was and also the stem. We estimated the number of ribs then counted. EK measured the circumference too~

 Then it was time to start the carving...

we cut the lid and everyone dug in {except Evie who kept saying oooo because of the smell} and Payne decided it was ok after a little while watching.

EK has been learning about adjectives in language so we made a list of describing words as we pulled out the pulp/seeds.

SO much fun separating the seeds so we could bake/eat later!

We made a list of possible faces... Evie was the deciding vote of Happy~

 She did not come near us much as we cleaned but was very curious once the face started to take form.

She even pulled out the nose {Huge courage!}.

We named him Jacko, made our pic, and came in to bake the seeds.

EVERYONE {big deal} LOVED them!!!

Wonderful Wednesday~ Our Jack-o-lantern is ready for Halloween!!!

Pumpkin Week~

Our book for the first two days this week has been The Pumpkin Patch Parable~

 Yesterday we read the book and painted pumpkins~

 and today we read again then made the faces!

 Tomorrow the life cycle and carving!!!

Fun Friday~ Pumpkin Day

Scott and I had planned to take the littles to pumpkin patch today but after checking times found out it opened at 5pm... NOT the ideal time for little ones to be pumpkin picking.

SO plan B went into effect...

Scott ran to Walmart and chose a BEAUTIFUL pumpkin ($7) for...

Pumpkin Day! 

We grabbed it right away and headed to the school room:).

First it had to be named~ everyone agreed on Bumpy and for some reason they all wanted to take a ride~

 We all made observations and recorded them on a language chart.

The next step was weighing each of us and Bumpy... then lining up in order of weight. Love that they noticed it was with age as well.

 Everyone guessed how long a string would need to be for circumference of Bumpy but we were all off~

 By this time everyone was getting a little hungry so we measured how tall he was with unifix cubes and were off to make 'Jack o' Bunuelos' with tortillas, butter, cinnamon sugar, and orange sugar. They loved 'carving' their own pumpkins~

 When tummies were full, we headed out for pumpkin carving~

   EK and WP LOVED pulling out the pulp... SJ NO way! She did pull the eyes, nose, and mouth out but grabbed a towel right away. LOL

Today we read one of my favorite pumpkin books...

The Pumpkin Patch Parable~

 I pulled my pumpkin life cycle posters and we sequenced together~

 Next they each made made a little book and read together.

LOVE that they all finished their book saying they are like a jack-o-lantern... 
their face shining a light for Jesus.
