A Lot of Learning Going On~

Look at all the Owl books we have been reading. This is where most of our learning comes from, and we love to pair it with some kind of art as often as we can~

Calla's favorite was Owl Babies. I read it to her several times a day for a week~
One morning she did her own extension with it by drawing a picture and narrating her favorite part. She loved when I changed the characters to her, EC, and HM!

One of our favorite things each week is painting with chalk pastels and this one was so fun~

Calla continued her owl activities with a puppet, ABC match, and owl eyes~

She was SO excited to take her new eyes out in the woods to look for an owl nest and oak trees~

This is one of the greatest things about fall... time in the woods playing and exploring without the threat of poisonous animals and plants~
They all have their favorite spot to sit and be along!

Such beautiful leaves we found on our hike~

And came home to sketch in our nature journals~

We continued with our owl theme by painting a Pointillist style~

We love all the wonderful things we read, learn, and try on Swanburne Academy~

For Fun Friday, we chopped all our Halloween candy to make Left Over Candy cookies~

We made hot chocolate and had Poetry Teatime too~

Morning Walks are also a favorite and this day we took a photo in front of Mr. Billy's beautiful fall tree~

This past week we have enjoyed this wonderful children's book about the puppeteer that created the balloons in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade~
We have taken a rabbit trail to learn all about the famous attractions there including The Statue of Liberty which we wrote about~

We did another chalk pastel of The Brooklyn Bridge~

A little more about this rhythm:
•I choose the verse and print one per child. For CA, I shorten and write for her. She traces and sometimes copies then we name letters and she finds the sight words she knows.
•We highlight in our Bibles and date it.
•We read through our sight word decks each day and match to words they read.
•EC and HM highlight the words they know, we read and match the deck, and I take one word they don’t know and analyze it.
•Does it look like a word they know? Do they see a little word inside the big word? Can they sound it out?
•Then we read the verse again together with them reading words they know and me filling in ones they don’t. You would be surprised how many they pick up just reading together. •I keep the verses for a week then staple them into a little book they glue in their everyday journal. Great keepsake!
•AND we LOVE Explode the Code!!! One side a day and extreme growth showing!!!

Birthdays, Stitches, and a Wedding~

Rosie and Leighton celebrated their birthdays four days apart, and we had a ball at Leighton's Magical Unicorn Waterslide 4 YO party~ It...
