Have you chosen a Word for 2017?
A Word of focus?
It this out of style now? Old stuff? A passing fad?
Does it even make sense to choose a word?
My Word for 2016 was Words and on point because I wrote for 4 blogs and 2 podcasts as well as IG and FB.
Over the last 7 months since Calla has been home, I haven't been a very good planner. Pretty much flying by the seat of my pants on cleaning my house, ironing, planning meals, making grocery lists, and even schooling the kiddos.
Really just getting through the days as best I could while helping everyone become a family again. The only thing I really kept on schedule was the laundry. I really have THAT down to a science. (Post for later.)
This year I need a plan.
A plan to Abide.
I have joked for years about getting a tattoo. If I did, I would have Abide written on my wrist.
What's easier than a tattoo? Having it stamped on a necklace and that's exactly what Scott and the Bigs gave me for Christmas.
What does it mean to Abide?
Google defines: "Accept or act in accordance with (a rule, decision, or recommendation)."
- to wait for : await
- to accept without objection <will abide your decision>
- to remain stable or fixed in a state
- to continue in a place : sojourn
The Bible describes Abide this way:John 15 English Standard Version (ESV)15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. 7 If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. 10 If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. 11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
SO what does Abide mean to my life? JOY
I always start my morning with Jesus in the Word but at times hurry through it to move on to other things. This year I really want to take time (remain stable or fixed in a state) in the Bible, praying, and writing out Scripture.
I know without a doubt when I seek Jesus first He will give me all I need for a single day.
Meal Planning with my Bullet Journal: my life written down. I have a Moleskin journal and customize it for my life. I want to spend time making a menu plan and grocery lists because I have a husband that always does the shopping for us (isn't that the best?).
For me making a bi-weekly list is the easiest: Sun-Wed and Thurs-Sat. This week I made a menu, wrote two grocery lists and shopped twice for what we needed. I can't tell you how wonderful it feels when we know what 9-10 people are eating all day. A load off my mind!!!
School Planning: I would like to write out what we will do each day but I'm much better at writing what we DID... knowing myself is sometimes bliss. I have chosen a reading basket to keep in our family room with all the things we read each day. As we read and finish, I move that selection to the back of the basket. We just choose the next thing in the basket for next day. Again, it works for us!
3. Abide in YOU (Me):
Exercise: I wish I could say I was a runner or even committed walker but in this season of life, I don't have the luxury of leaving my children while I go out for exercise. I can't even take them with me because it would be a fiasco of bikes, scooters, and that would not be exercise for me. That would be playtime for them. SO I choose to step on a mat for yoga when they are in their rooms. Some days I just wing it for about 10 minutes or I invite Yoga with Adrienne over. :) I love her calm routine and feel refreshed each time I practice. Most of all I love the simplicity of a mat and MY floor!
