Fun Friday~ {Listening Day}

Friday, January 30, 2015

My sweet friend Melissa loaned us many books and tapes
and even gave us some that were being thrown out~
 I finally had time to gather it up, put out some supplies for responding to the stories,
and let them have a morning of simple listening~
 And when that got old, we pulled out the Ipads~
 Then we made kid made pizzas and called it a Fun Friday~
Ready for the weekend!!!

Mr. Popper's Penguins~

Tuesday, January 27, 2015

We continued reading Mr. Popper's Penguins today
and added a fiction and non fiction selection to the mix.
For our 'activity' they traced, cut, and created a little penguin for some math work~
 Evie was so cute tracing the right side of pattern with her right hand
then switching to her left hand when on the left
{and I didn't correct her because it worked for her}
and just look at Payne working with that cast~
 Then there is Holly that actually understood the directions to cut ON the lines
and glue all her parts correctly... SO excited for her!!!
We played a fish eating game by putting a few fish in the penguin tummy~
 Writing it on the dry erase board and showing me with their fingers,
they loved subtraction!
{baby for EK/SJ but they humored us!}
So fun!!!

Simplifying~

You might not think being without a dishwasher for going 4 weeks is simplifying but
I have started to find joy standing at my sink looking out over my yard,
drying dishes when they are clean,
and putting them not to touch again until we eat.
{Cutting out the middle man really}
And to make it just a little more fun~
I jumped on YouTube and watched a few videos to learn the granny square
then made a sweet dishcloth.
I can really say it made my dishwashing joyful today!!!
{Making another one tonight while I watch Fixer Upper!!!
MY FAV SHOW!!!

And just to add a little smile, THIS is how I found Evie during rest today~
Out of bed, dressed up in my heels, and the sweetest smile.
How could I do anything but take her photo
especially when she asked if she was gorgeous....
Ummmm YES Ms Big, YOU ARE!!!

Busy Fingers~

Monday, January 26, 2015

Today I pulled out a little fine motor work for the 4 youngest
because they want to sew like the bigger girls.
I picked up some tapestry needles at Michael's and shelf liner at Dollar Tree.
I cut small squares, threaded the needles, and attached to the squares~
 I gave them a little tutorial on down and up
{which made no difference}
because they all did their own thing and that was awesome~
Super concentration was had while we all listened to our books for the day.
They all ended up in cute little balls and asked for more!
Busy Fingers getting stronger every time they poked that needle through!!!
Good sewing little kids!

The Cast Boy~

Payne broke his arm last Sunday was a week ago
and they set him in a splint for a short time.
Today we traveled back for an x-ray and hard cast~
 He was a champ and we were back in the truck headed home~
Hoping three weeks and he will be all healed up!!!
Wouldn't you say he picked a great color?
Green is his fav!!!

Weekend IGs~

Sunday, January 25, 2015

Saturday Night was Movie Night~
The Aristocrats was loved by all!

Evie went in and stayed the whole time without me standing by the door.
I was able to go to worship with Scott and when I picked them up...
Evie said~
Momma always comes back and I didn't cry!!!
What a huge step for this little fierce soul!
SO proud of you Evie and LOVE you beyond words!!!

The Sewing Divas~

Friday, January 23, 2015

Now that we have that big Zoo creation behind us,
the girls went back to their sewing this afternoon
and love the new book full of projects Memommy gave them~

Since Christmas the girls have been sewing in our formal living room
but today they moved everything up to their room~
 EK remembered Savannah had a machine here and brought it out to use
so they are Dueling Sewing Divas~
It is old school making it a little harder to use
but she's gotten the hang of it pretty quickly.
She DOES say she wants one like SJ for her birthday!

On Sunday SJ made a microphone and yesterday they both made new little pets~
This afternoon, they made art aprons, crayon rolls, hats for the boys :)
and guitars~
{Daddy even had to make another Walmart run for more stuffing!}
I'm sure they're in bed dreaming of what they will make tomorrow!!!

Zoo Day~ {Fun Friday}

Before school even started this am,
Payne got out his journal and wrote a story about me and his dad~
He wrote our names and Love
then said "Mom, Dad is loving you!"
I think he is learning how to be a mighty man of God!!!

Today we pulled some Zoo theme books and had a reading party~
 I had the photos printed we took at the Zoo this week and we put them in a little album.
We went through each one and wrote a story of our day
then printed our favorite memory and glued it into our journals~
A good simple Fun Friday!!!

Foundational Learning~

Thursday, January 22, 2015

The Bitty girls are learning their letters and sounds...
(and didn't want to do anything in their drawers) SO
I pulled out our Leap Frog Letter Factory video and popped it in~
 I wrote the alphabet on a page in their journal and they trace the letter when they sang its sound.
Evie was rockstar at this and Holly was loved the singing!

I was back and forth between all kids and loved snuggling up to hear SJ~
 read a chapter from her Henry and Mudge book!

Back to check on bitties and found they had drawn a crowd~
 After the video, I put out the ABC stamps and they stamped all the letters
while remembering their sounds.
(Evie helped Holly find her spot)
Gotta Watch THIS~

The boys had their own reading time going!
Partner reading is the best!!!
Post about EK's contribution to the morning HERE!

Adoption in the Raw~ {WHAT Breaks Your Heart?}

 I guess because EK finished up her school work before the others,
she went digging through our home videos~
and instead of FIAR activity time, we had Life lessons time.

As I sat reliving Amelia's birth, I overheard their conversations processing what they watched.
~you had Mimi in your tummy
~is that little girl Nana
~ where is Gigi
~we're in China
~they didn't GET them like us
~who are those people (Scott's parents gone before they came home)
~look at Memommy and Sissy
Just a beautiful picture of redemption for me.

An hour later, still watching~
It is times like this when adoption thoughts get deep
and soulful... and I hold my littles each extra tight
so they can FEEL the Forever they now live.

The reality of their loss takes my heart over the edge sometimes
and I would never have wished it on them even if it meant me not being their mom.
{Now THAT is RAW for me!}
I would have chosen their first parents getting the joy I get every single day
BUT
that's not how life turned out for them SO...

We make adoption and loss and hard things a normal okay kind of talk
every single day they want to talk about it.
They ask questions and I answer as best I can
 with my broken/thankful momma heart all rolled into one.

I don't know all the answers and probably never will
but I want them to know...
 they can ALWAYS ask
and I will ALWAYS
walk through the good,
 the bad,
the beautiful,
and the raw right along with them.

I recently listened to a sermon by Andy Stanley @ North Point Community Church
He said,
This is that time of year when we become painfully aware of where we are not, who we are not, and what we need to do differently. Traditionally, the new year is a season of self-absorption. It’s all about what we can do to make ourselves better people. The result is that churches, health clubs, debt counselors, and vitamin shops do a booming business.
But we tend to forget that the people we respect the most didn’t devote their lives to becoming the best version of themselves. They devoted their lives to making a difference in the world . . . or in someone’s world.
Learning to give myself away has been the biggest lesson in my adoption journey.
Once we chose this path for our lives,
our commitment to self was sidetracked.

Andy's key question was~
WHAT breaks your heart?

The beginnings of THESE~
is WHAT breaks my heart!
The choice of their first parents to let them go.
The time they each spent abandoned all alone until found.
Being taken to orphanages where they would live until chosen.
Waiting, waiting waiting.
Cold, hungry, crying, sick with our love to wrap them up.
Being taken to a scary place one day and given to total strangers.
Thrown into a whole new life with no experiences to hinge it all on.

I could go on and on and on but I'll stop here.
Our children have so much to overcome and
so much to live for as well.
Watching the videos today opened up even more opportunities for love to grow
through all the things they have to process.

At one point in the sermon, Andy told a story of he and his wife having a moment
when they broke down over the question~
WHAT if we had MISSED this?

Scott and I feel the same way about ALL our children...
Brings us to SOBS when we think~
WHAT IF WE HAD MISSED THIS?
{what if we had missed the 5 births and the 6 gotchas we witnessed}

It may be the hardest calling in the world,
but I wouldn't trade my life for anything in the world!!!
{Good, bad, beautiful, and raw}

SO I ask YOU today~
WHAT Breaks Your Heart?
There are 153 million orphans in the world.
Does THAT break your heart?
Please take time to pray how God could change not only the world of a child
but also the blessing you might be missing.
What if you miss it?
Believe me!!!
You DON'T want to!

Nehemiah 1:11a
Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of this your servant
and to the prayer of your servants who
delight in revering your name.

Nothing would make me happier than helping YOU begin a journey
toward YOUR child waiting somewhere in this world.
I am just a comment, email, or call away.
I will help you begin to mend hearts!!!

Greenville Zoo~ {Field Trip Day}

Wednesday, January 21, 2015

We were all dressed and beginning school when my friend Ragan texted
and invited us to meet them at the zoo.
Ummm yes!
Packed a couple of bags with lunch, grabbed my camera, and off we went!!!
BOY are we glad we went~
 EK & SJ had wanted to visit the zoo after their big project~

 The zoo is pretty small so the kids feel like they 'Know' all the animals.
Loved seeing every single one and reading about them~
 My sweet friend Ragan and her two babies... (and 2 waiting in China!)

Today was Squirrel Appreciation Day so all the kids made feeders~

After a picnic lunch, we hit the playground~
Could NOT have had a more beautiful day... 70 degrees!~
 Super cool story...
I met an adoption mom and family at the park.
We both had so much in common: lots of Chinese children, homeschool families,
same age, and photogs~
 Our kids hit it off as well as we did and you would have thought we'd known them always~
 LOVED making new friends and great memories~
 Thank you sweet Ragan for making our day Awesome!!!!!
