Gong Hei Fat Choi~

Thursday, January 30, 2014

Today we got a little head start on CNY by watching a video about the traditions celebrated in China ~
{Their faces show how much they liked it!}

We water colored The Year of the Horse and created lanterns~
 We again pulled out all our Chinese books!

We love our beautiful crafts~

More Snow Fun~

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Our day outside began early {right after breakfast} with lots of sled riding~

Daddy worked super hard to give these littles a FUN morning~

 Even mom and dad got a little ride~

Go Boys~

 We ate snow, played in the playhouse, and took a walk to the lake~
 Definitely another sweet day of Snow Fun~
Even though it's another day off from school for Rosie,
we will be back to the regular school schedule here at home.

Maps and Compass Roses~

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

For our second reading of Katy and the Big Snow,
the kids noticed compass roses all through the book so we ran with it.
We divided a paper plate, added directions, and sequins to make our own.
 I had them find every book and puzzle they could with maps then we looked through and found many more.
We also read all about maps and keys~
Our next project is drawing a bird's eye view of their room.

The Snowy Day~ {Really!}

We dreamed, hoped, and prayed for snow this morning...
the meteorologist was predicting a winter storm warning but we couldn't be sure.
Our morning was spent schooling in front of the fire~

Not long after lunch SJ looked out the window to squeal~
IT'S SNOWING!!!
That's all it took... I was down to the basement to dig out all the coats, hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, etc. and they were out the door.
I followed them around with the camera taking in their awe and excitement...
Payne and Evie's first snow day~
 I can honestly say they can take the cold WAY better than I do!
The trampoline was very fun~
 EK ran to get the sleds from the storage {yes we have sleds just in case!}~
 EVERY! SINGLE! ONE! Loved flying down the hill!
 Everyone went to bed hoping the snow would continue to fall through the night and their daddy would help them build a snowman!
{Does that remind anyone of a song?}
A Beautiful Snowy Day!!!

Simple Sunday~

Sunday, January 26, 2014

358 salvations @ NewSpring's 8 campuses today~
 And a little video of Evie telling me about a 'tiny ladybug' in her room~
Scooped her up and found it together... all better now!

Winter Fun Friday~

Friday, January 24, 2014

Our week was pretty non eventful...
just continued our normal routine with a few Winter books thrown in for fun.
Today we woke up to pretty frigid temps so I decided we would learn about thermometers and temperature~
EK asked if we could sit a bowl of water out on the step to see if it would freeze... watched all day but no ice.
We also watched what happened to ice in the sun then put the melted water back in the freezer.
Amazing how such a simple experiment can make even Evie understand solids and liquids.

Our first book of the day was A Snowy Day and we created our own thermometers to manipulate~

EK ran to get her snow globe so we decided to make our own~
 As we read Polar Bear, Polar Bear, EK used the Globe pen to let us hear each animal sound... very cool!

We did a little dancing to The Freeze and others~
Had a little snack and called it a Winter Fun Friday.
Next week~

Self Portrait~

I have drawn a little girl on every single journal page Evie has ever done~
{She always says... draw Evie mama}
 Tonight she drew this all by herself!!!
Self portrait~ budding artist!!
Pretty much makes my whole year!!!

A Dental Day~

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Today was Dental Day for all 5 littles to have their teeth cleaned.
I was SO blessed that my niece Jessica chose to spend the day with us!!!
We all arrived @ 10... boys went first and teeth were perfect!
THEN it was EK and SJ's turn...
SJ had no cavitities but did have to get an appliance placed {big tears!}.
EK had an abscess that would need extracting {giant tears}.
Thankful Jessica was with us to hang with the boys.
Scott had to come from work to be with EK and SJ.
THEN it was Evie's turn... her FIRST cleaning ever {big and giant tears}~
 Thankful I was able to hold her through the whole thing with minimal screaming~
SO scared she was getting a 'shock' {shot}.
We left Dr. Lugas' office 3 hours later with 5 mouths of healthy teeth!
AND this is what Evie looked like from a day without her nap~
WHEW! Glad to be back home and no where to go tomorrow!!!
Thank you Dr. Lugas and staff for taking care of our family!
And thank you Jessica for spending the day with us... SO beautiful because of YOU!!!

Time Together~

Monday, January 20, 2014

We spent more time outside today than in.
Scott cleaned out the kids 'Hideout' area and chopped wood~
 Kids started out in big coats and ended up in jackets.
There was lots of exploring, jumping, and loading wood!
 EK learned to count rings on a log to know it's age~
 SO thankful for warm sun and time outside because the 'polar vortex' is coming back on Wednesday.
{I even broke out the 'real' camera!}

IG's from the day~

 This afternoon while the others were out playing, Evie and I played birthday party~
 She is VERY excited about her 4th bd in 14 days!!!
