Today we began our FIAR book study on Ping. They LOVED it especially because the setting is so familiar to them.
After reading we printed maps of China and located the Yangtze River, we found each one's province/city~
We also learned all about map keys and made one for our maps. They already can't wait to see what we're doing tomorrow!

  1. Sharon, I love following your blogs! We, too, have older children, with the two littles from China. I was a 5th grade teacher up until the day our first born made her appearance, so I appreciate all your teacher ideas. We have been a homeschooling family all these years so it has been a joy - most days! - to implement all the fun teaching ideas with my children! Our two littles are almost six and almost five. The boys are smart, know all of their sounds, are learning to read (How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons - my favorite book!) and love doing preschool work. My issue is that both boys have real trouble with the pencil and making any letters or numbers! I have two older sons so I know that their development comes later, you have any ideas on how to encourage writing their letters and numbers? We have the bathtub crayons and have tried fingerpaints to help with this. Also, Isaac - almost six -does school with his right hand, but eats with his left! Feel free to email me when you get a chance. Thanks so much!

  2. Ping was one of my all time favorite books as a child, loved The Story of Ferdinand too.
    Love your school ideas!!!!
