Communication~

One of the hardest parts of adoption is the lack of communication between parents and new child. There is lots of gesturing, facial communication, signing, and just agreeing. Payne has the most language of any child we have adopted... he and our guide Anna carry on conversations and I LOVE knowing what he says. He will talk to Scott and I constantly... sometimes I repeat back to him or try to talk to him and he says... Huh? He knows he can't understand us and this is pretty much what we hear all day long~
Lots of talking going on... don't ever want to forget!

  1. Oh My goodness! That is SO cute!! The best thing I ever did when we were getting Gracie was to video her talking to our precious guide. That was the last time she spoke like that in her fluent Changsha dialect. Priceless!! He is seriously adorable!!!

  6. I love the video! Communication was def. a frustration when I went to Haiti. I'm going to make myself learn some simple phrases next time I leave the country. Don't you just love little chatterboxes! Another thought watching this was how much time you all spend in the hotel room. I bet everyone is stir crazy!

  10. I so treasure the pictures that you are posting of the Chinese people. We missed so much of this due to Madelyn's illness and daily afternoon/evening trips to the hospital for IVs and breathing treatments. Thank you for allowing me to share some of the daily culture through your pictures.

Payne Curtis is sooo precious. Can't wait until he is home and adjusted enough to wrap my arms around him. Just wondering if you think he and Will Perry will be able to communicate any in Chinese?

    Much love and prayers!

  11. How sweet! Yes, take as much video as you can. He will love seeing this in a couple years!! (Esp. when he has that little Georgian accent!) I would want to know what he was saying all the time!! How does he interact with the littles at home when he sees them on Facetime?

  12. My almost seven year old goes to Mandarin immersion school, we were enjoying Payne and this sweet video. She couldn't catch everything he said, but when he was holding up the yellow marker, she said he is saying "Momma, that one doesn't have anymore ink. It's broken Momma."

  14. Hey Shay, I had Helena listen to Payne Curtis to see what he said to you. This is what she told me. He said the trian is coming. (several times) It's coming again. When he grabbed the yellow thing he said it does not have anything in it. You need a new one.He asked who's pen is this? Then he tried to talk to you in English and said, Talk to mama. Talk to mama. Talk to mama. I just thought you would love to hear what he is telling you. Absolutely precious. Shelby, Emma, Helena, and I were all glued to the screen and watched many times.
