WP's Very Own School Shelf~

Thursday, August 30, 2012

For the last week or so WP has wandered around the school room doing whatever the girls were doing or not really knowing what to do.
I decided it was a good idea he had his own school shelf so I dumped found this old shelf in the garage and filled it with activities for him.
Top shelf holds two baskets with Leapfrog Books and ABC letters for free play.
Bottom shelf holds two sets of drawers with two trays on top. One tray is his name activity and the other has stickers and paper.
The drawers hold alphabet and number activities. I'm pretty sure he did every single thing on his shelf in one day but am positive he will do it all over again tomorrow!
A little sponge just soaking it all in!!!

Happy Birthday~

Today was Scott's 51st birthday.
It was work as usual for him but tonight we celebrated with dinner, cake (thank you Susan!), and just being home.
I couldn't love you more and hope you have many more bds to come!!!
This time next year you will have two more little ones making you homemade bd cards and crowding around to help blow out the candles!!!
Happy birthday sweetheart!!!

Jesse Bear~

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

We are rowing Jesse Bear What Will You Wear this week and they LOVE it!
I remember it being my niece, Jessica's very favorite book when she was a little girl.
Yesterday we read the book a couple of times to see what their first impressions would be... they caught on to the rhyming right away.
I took out my smelly markers and began writing rhyming pairs on index cards.
We turned them all over and played memory, then recorded them in our notebooks~
Today we made adorable Jesse Bear puppets that outfits can be changed, talked about different forms of weather, and shared puppet shows~
Puppetry is one of SJ's favorite activities so she loved this day's art activity!
They already can't wait to see what we will be doing tomorrow!

Sweet Joy~

We had the name Shaylee picked out way before we brought her home and one day after we knew she had a serious heart defect, God gave me the scripture~
"A joyful heart is good medicine... Prov 17:22".
It was that day I had the thought to add Joy to her name~
ShayleeJoy!

I sat with her in my arms this morning watching the videos of her forever family day... heart breaking! She cried and cried and cried!
I cried and cried and cried this morning while watching it.
There was certainly NO Joy at that moment for her~
Later on in our room, we saw the first glimpse of her joy!
There is just something about holding your child once home and looking back to that emotional day... there are just no words for how that makes you feel.

Fast forward one year to her first SJ Day and the transformation is amazing~
I'd say GREAT Joy!

And now I can hardly express how much I love and adore her, how very smart she is (LOVES school)~
and such JOY... she can barely contain it~
Dear ShayleeJoy,
Two years ago, you were broken, scared, and so sick.
I took you in my arms and dedicated my life to loving you healthy.
I can say without a doubt, you are loved beyond measure and God gave us one of our greatest blessings Aug 29, 2010!
You are our Sweet Joy!
We love you to God and back and always will Forever!!!
Love Mama!

Bedtime Story~

Just don't want to forget the little things~
 They all adore their daddy!

Starting Week 5~

Monday, August 27, 2012

Four weeks of school behind us and there has been much refining of activities and procedures if I can be so formal.
One abstract that most children struggle with is the passage of time... what comes next, when do we do ???, is time for lunch yet?
You get the picture...
I have read on various blogs of a workbox management system for the work kids need to complete.

I began shopping around for a drawer system we might incorporate into our schedule... tried to use the clear see through ones but just wasn't working.

It didn't take long to find exactly what I was looking for~ a 15 drawer rolling cart to organize our days/week into one area.
The clear drawers on top are for me to drop books and ideas for next weeks of planning.
The notebooks are their binders where we add and document all they are doing each day~
The new system went into action today and worked like a charm!
We call them our Rainbow boxes and our school day starts on red and goes through purple... day complete.
Red~ Bible, Calendar, Morning Work
Orange~ FIAR work, Writing Journals
Green~Reading/Language (phonics)
Blue~ Math
Purple~ Art, Quiet Reading Boxes, Catch up Work
The big drawers house my materials and things for WP... the two smaller drawers: top for EK's work and bottom for SJ's.
We worked through each drawer and everyone knew exactly where we were on our schedule for the day.

A look around our room~
EK and SJ work on the calendar board together before I get there and share the info when I am ready to listen.
Literacy centers are just there if someone needs a little something extra to do or if WP needs an activity.
Art supplies are used a lot~ even in the afternoons and evenings when school isn't is session. :)
Word work drawers are used during our reading time.

Math centers are the same idea as literacy~ there if we need something extra.
Calendar~ the one only SJ works on.
Our world map is one our favorite things in our room~ refer to it all the time!
Teaching stuff is pretty much anything I might need in a lesson.

Still love our room~
and being together every day!!!

The Swing~

There is nothing much sweeter than looking out the front window to see the girls swinging together after their school day ended~

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
River and trees and cattle and all
Over the countryside--

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown--
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

Fun Friday... Art in the Park and Grey's Day~

Friday, August 24, 2012

Fun Friday is usually the highlight of our school week and I had planned a couple of art activities for today but at the last minute had a great idea~
(Basically meant... take it outside :)
We gathered all our supplies, easel, and chose our spot out under our birch tree~ Ankerich Park~
I set up 4 stations they could float through...
* watercolor painting seashells gathered on our vacation
* easel painting (free choice)
* sponge painting jellyfish
* drawing with chalk on blackboard
They enjoyed the easel being outside so much, we are leaving it in the garage until it gets cold out and even hung an art gallery for their masterpieces~
After cleanup time, I needed to run to the bank so we picked up Happy Meals and headed to Memommy and Pop's house!
You would have thought we were going to Disney!
I'm pretty sure everyone had a VERY happy Fun Friday!!!

Greyson has his family and wanted to share photos~
 God is good!

Science Writing~

Thursday, August 23, 2012

Today we were able to squeeze all of school in the morning as we expected our social worker visit about 1pm.
One of the activities we did was with a non-fiction Jellyfish book.
EK read one page and I read one page~ discussing the facts as we read.
Afterwards, I had her remember and write 3 cool facts she learned.
We talked about drawing diagrams and labeling them so she did just that~
And just to make it just a little more fun,
we added some glitter glue to her jellyfish~ perfect.
WP got into the mix when we pulled out pattern blocks. :)

Scott's Hobby turned Big Work~

Scott decided he would turn his real estate hobby into a way back to China.
What started as a buy/flip adventure became a buy/fix-up/flip adventure.
He has spent countless hours working himself, overseeing contractors, and making decisions for the Athens St house he bought.
Even with a full time job, working at the barn, church responsibilities, and this house, he has not let his family down...
still home most nights to eat, hang out with us, help with bath and bedtime, etc.
Here are some before and after shots of his first flip~

Today ALL his hard work paid off... he sold and closed AND just in time because we had our social worker visit... fees were due.
(Our social worker was the same age as Savannah and as sweet as could be~ LOVED having her here visiting our home and THANKFUL that she is amending our home study to bring our 2 home.)~
SO proud of you honey for working so hard bringing our little ones home!!!

Colossians 3:24-5
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,  since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

Wordless Wednesday~

LOVE and JOY!!!

Sick Day~

3 of our girls have really bad colds and EK just did not feel well this am.
The beauty of home school is doing school even when you are sick in pjs around the coffee table~
She read to me and we thought of a writing idea.
She wrote a story and read it to us.
We played math games.
And a little technology was in order as well...
Readeez and Reading Eggs~ some of our favorites!

Payne Curtis' Story~

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

We didn't have any idea we would be adopting two children this time.
As a matter of fact, my friend Donna told me to petition for two in our home study and I didn't listen~ tiny mistake!

We came home with WP thinking we were going back for Grayson and God had different plans.
(PS. Grayson's (Grey) forever family leaves tomorrow for China. It won't be long now before they are all united and forever begins. Please click on Kim's blog Shouts of Joy to follow their journey.)
We continued the process believing God was leading us to another son.
In looking through many files, we just didn't see him but did find her
I just knew her when I saw her~ no way to explain... I just did.
About two weeks ago, WP had a little episode about dress up clothes and it was the first inkling that a brother might be in the future.
I even said to Scott~ WP needs a brother to which he ignored. :)
I was really kidding but then not really... maybe next time? Next time??
I mentioned all of this to my friend Donna and the next words out of her mouth were~
WHY don't you get him this time?
It hadn't even crossed my mind!

Scott and I met lots of families in China adopting two children and thought it would be SO hard... never thinking it might be us... now it is.

Back to the story... Donna said she had the perfect file sitting in her box and forwarded it to me on a Monday.
Scott was out of town for the week and I went to Bible study that Tuesday morning~ Nehemiah~ prayed about everything.
I begin to pray that God would tell Scott we should bring home two and not let it be about me.
I left Bible study with a heaviness on me that we were indeed to adopt two but HOW?
HOW could we bring two home when one was stretching us already?
I sent Scott a message with the photo and asked him to pray.
Throughout the week, we contacted doctors, talked to other adoptive families, etc. :)
In reviewing his file, we determined his special need was very doable and he would be a great fit for our family.

Obsticles that stood in the way...
~ Did our agency allow two at one time? (already knew yes) YES!
~ Was he still on the shared list? (over a year) YES!
~ Was he special focus? (had to be for us to bring him home) YES!
~ Could our family qualify to bring two home together? YES!
We couldn't say no.
There was only one thing left to do~ LOCK and send LOI.
(LOI~ letter of intent to adopt, LOA~ letter of acceptance to adopt)
SO on day 50 of our LOA wait for EC, we sent LOI on Monday for PC and now we have to amend our home study to adopt two children, wait for immigration once again, and wait for PC's paperwork to catch up to EC's.
(Scott later admitted he had had thoughts of another son but didn't say a word... :)

We are not sure of travel timeline, we don't know who will be going with us, we don't know how it is all going to happen, but we DO know WHO is sending us and HE already has the plan.

Our interim pastor spoke on Matt 18:1-5: The Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven~
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”
He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.

His bottom line was: Be in wonder of God instead of wandering off.

Evie and Payne came to my mind and I kept imagining first of all their the chance to know God in our family and secondly, they would know the wonder of being a child~ playing, security in a family, siblings to grow up with, a mama and daddy's love.
It thrilled me to no end!!!
I stand in wonder of the One Who has called us again to bring a precious one home and we intend to not wander off.

I have updated the Joyful Heart auction which went by the wayside during vacay and starting home school~ so sorry.
I have a list of 6 friends that added our button to their blog... please let me know if you did or will add as I will be drawing for the bag and camera strap on Friday!
(Copy code from sidebar to add to your blog)
I also have a new item up and relisted several others~ please stop by and place a bid.

I also want to ask if you know of someone that would offer an item for us~ Etsy shop, friend that makes something awesome, something you create, anything~ Please email me!
It would mean so much to the success of the auction because we now need to raise 2 orphanage fees~ $5600 X 2 = $11,200!!!
Some may say that is impossible but I know GOD is way bigger than two fees and He loves Evie and Payne very much.

Please help us raise the funds we need to travel!!!
Blessings to all!

Math Time~

Much was found yesterday while organizing lots of math supplies and EK loved using some of them today~
We played game after game after game working on addition facts to 10.
SO fun!!!

Teacher Work Day~

Monday, August 20, 2012

I declared today a Teacher Work Day and gave the littles a Play Day!
It was a HOUSE work day and not school... my house was in dire need of attention!
I sent them to their rooms to get dressed and they made me smile SO big when they came down~
I am happy to say my house is clean, laundry is washed/ironed/put away, beds are all changed, and dinner was delicious.
I was also able to get some school things organized and put away too!
As I was getting littles ready for bed, I looked out my front windows to see the most gorgeous sunset.
I felt like God gave me a kiss of affirmation~
Photos SOOC...

What an awesome God we serve Who loves us SO very much!!!

Eccl 3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
