Our Garden~

Monday, April 30, 2012

After dinner, we planted 2 tomato plants and some butter beans~
The littles found their gardening tools and were right there helping their daddy.
EK is already dreaming of tomato sandwiches and I can pretty much guarantee WP will love them too.

Simple Sunday~

Sunday, April 29, 2012

Our Simple Sunday was one with church, lunch, and Pool time~
{All photos taken with my phone}
YES! It was colder than freezing but our kids loved it anyway.
Scott, Josh, and Amelia tried it too... I won't be in until at least Julyish. :)

The best part of this Sunday~ Amelia was home from college for the summer and J&S were home for a visit!
Having our family together is a great blessing!!!

Spring Fling~

Saturday, April 28, 2012

We took the littles to EK's school for Spring Fling.
They enjoyed...
A Train ride~

Digging for Treasure~
 Cake Walk~

Their Favorite~ Feeding the Elephant~
SJ couldn't believe her eyes~ SO sweet!
 My sweet Spring Flingers. :)

Happy Arbor Day~

Friday, April 27, 2012

Yesterday our family celebrated a combination of Earth Day on Sunday and Arbor Day today
with EK's class at school.
I shared a book called A Tree named Steve
and Scott planted a class tree named Steve right outside their door~
We named our tree Steve because:
Such Treasure EVeryone Enjoys!!!
After photos were taken of everyone with Steve,
they all wanted to pet Fisher in the back of Scott's truck.
IF Scott is out and about around home, Fisher is SURE to be in the back.
It was a great day honoring two wonderful days with a group of beautiful tree lovers!!!
Thank you Mrs. Gurley for inviting us!!!

There is NO other child in the whole world that exudes her name legacy JOY more than ShayleeJOY!
There is also NO other child that readily and naturally exudes Fruit of the Spirit more than ShayleeJoy either.
She is thus dubbed SparkleJoy in our home these days~
She is constantly looking for 'Sparkling' behavior in everyone incuding her mama and daddy.
Just this morning she said, "Mom, Will Perry is being Joyful! Can he put in a sparkle?"
Another time she reminded me she was being very 'Patient' waiting and was off for a sparkle!
I was a little anxious this would be another 'thing' I had to keep up with but NOT so with SparkleJoy on the job...
She has us ALL thinking positive and wanting to sparkle just like her!!!

Proverbs 17:22
A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

I think most parents want their children to be loving, joyful, peaceful, gentle, etc.
I recently had a friend ask me how our big girls grew to be such amazing girls because she wanted to raise her girls the same.
Honestly, I have no idea~ well... really hard to put into words almost 23 years of parenting.

It got me thinking.
What do I share with this friend that would make a difference?

When all is said and done, it all comes down to Christ and His Love for us.
We didn't do it alone~ we were blessed by an amazing church, awesome teacher, good friends, and family support.
Having positive influences in life makes a huge difference.
We gave and still give them to God every single day.

Just this week, our church has been in revival and our littles have gone to class with these precious people~
{Gina, Sheryl, Brandon, Amy, Preacher Ben, & Donna}
Guess what they have been learning? The Fruit of the Spirit!
Galatians 5:22-23
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Going back to my friend's question, I shared with her a sweet activity I used to do with my school kids: Sparkle Jar!
Each time I caught them doing something 'good' they dropped a sparkle in~ working toward a class privilege.
She might want to try that with her little ones.

Excuse me... I have another round of littles to raise in the likeness of Christ... I think I need do it with my OWN littles too!!!
SO to tie in what they were learning at church,
I had an idea to make a Fruit of the Spirit Sparkle jar.
{Just an empty plastic container with foam letters for each fruit and flat marbles}
I worked to get it all ready and when EK came home from school, we talked about how it would work.
I explained that we would ALL be catching each other 'showing' a fruit and that person would put a sparkle in the jar.
When the sparkles reached the line I drew, we would all choose a friend to take to the park for 'fruit picnic' and playtime!

To say they were excited is an understatement!!!
And began catching each other being 'fruity' right away.
I know full well they are focusing on the sparkles/playtime instead of the fruit BUT we are being intentional in looking for and sharing fruit much more than we were before.
It has also encouraged the positive in each other instead of bickering about little things.
In the end, the greatest of these is LOVE and you better believe I am Intentional about that one.

There is WAY more I could write but I will stop at this today.
Please share things you believe have made a great impact on your family~ LOTS of us would love the encouragement!

1 Corinthians 13: 4-8, 13
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  8 Love never fails... And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.

PS. My bigs grew up singing the songs on THIS CDs and now our littles are singing them too~ and guess what? There is a darling Fruit of Spirit song on them!
{Great way to teach scripture to your children and I learned using it too!}

Blessings and love to all!

Earth Week~

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

In celebration of Earth Day on Sunday, the bittys and I have worked on a few fun activities.
We began by reading about our world and working with our globe~
Painted a cover for their little book... The Earth~
and illustrated the pages for it~
In honor of our Earth, we played games made with things we had recycled like egg cartons and bottle caps~
{Photo of him laughing is how he looked when he matched numbers correctly!}
We used ice cream cups to match upper and lower case letter~

A sweet morning of learning~

AND the other celebration we have every morning is...
the number of days left until Mimi is home for the summer~
That would be 2!!!! We can't wait!

Monday, April 23, 2012

EK was back to school today and came home with a smile!
SO thankful she is better!

Sweet Sunday~

Sunday, April 22, 2012

A sweet friend of mine spurred me on the last chapter of 7 and I am SO glad she did...
"Such is the ridiculous American life. Everyone of my friends has a similar story. None of us are happy about it, yet we keep filling up our calendars. Yes, I'm in; we'll sign up; I'll do it. We race from one activity to another, teaching our children to max out and stress out. Nice legacy.
This biblical concept of rest is whispering to me, "You're ignoring me." And I am. Not only do I not take God's command seriously, but I act like it's not even in the Bible. Ah, Sabbath. How cute and archaic. It's adorable how the Hebrews obeyed that. Good for them."

Leviticus 23:3
"You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of complete rest, an official day for holy assembly. It is the LORD's Sabbath day, and it must be observed wherever you live.

This is just the tip of her iceburg in this chapter and all I am sharing today because I am taking this part to heart.
Today we worshiped, ate as a family, and resting the day away.
In the past, I have used Sunday to catch up on house chores, edit photos and blog, spend extra time on my computer, etc. and there is nothing wrong with all that.

Today I am choosing Sweet Sunday~
a day to rest, relax, and refocus my mind on God's gift...
a day of rest.
Hoping that in the future all these words won't be necessary and I will just throw up a few photos if even that.
Blessings to you all and choose rest~ it's a gift!

Saturday, April 21, 2012

A few photos from our day:

Dr. Ankerich was on call this morning~

Helped Impact Church (Leadership Team)

assemble furniture for Preview Sunday, June 10

EK was extremely shy but a precious new friend pulled her in
and they became great friends~
We went by memommy and pop's and little 'country girl' was right at home~

And because we had  pizza earlier, we enjoyed bowls of cereal for dinner~
 A good Saturday!

Fun Friday~

Friday, April 20, 2012

When I taught K-2, we always celebrated Friday with FUN.
{Fun Friday: Book, Art, Cooking, Science, and Play!}.
Today I thought it would be the perfect way to end a week long study of plants... SO~
We read and retold The Tiny Seed~
Enjoyed a little playdough play and these great ABC mats~
Watercolored beautiful flowers like Eric Carle~

'Cooked' a delicious snack while they dried~

Planted seeds on a sponge to watch them grow~
Added texture and beauty to our flowers~

It was a beautiful day in the Ankerich garden with these precious bloomers~
Even though we have had sickness all week,
it has been a blessing to have my children home learning together and I think EK just might be on the mend today.

Genesis 1:29
Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food."

Joyful, Prayerful, Thankful~

Thursday, April 19, 2012

I woke up this morning with 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 on my heart.
It was so amazing to wake to this scripture that God gave me and I thought through it all day, trying to live it out.
Always be joyful.
Never stop praying.
Be thankful in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Many of you know we make a pretty long road trip to our pediatrician~ 2 hours one way
because we have gone to her for 22 years now... since Savannah was a baby and how do you switch after that long?
I thought about my scripture today and was reminded how Joyful I am to have such an awesome ped!

EK began running a fever last Wednesday afternoon and by Friday, she needed to see the dr.
She said EK had a sinus and ear infection~ put her on meds.
I have been very Prayerful all week for God to take care of our EK!

For the last entire week, she has continued to run a fever and just feel tired so I called the dr again.
Umm hmm... another road trip today to see our fav Dr. Morgan.
I thought how Thankful I am to have a good truck to drive my kids to a dr I love and trust!~
(Photo taken right after WP came home~ hasn't he matured?)

Anyway, she still had a red ear and now bronchitis with new meds.
Hoping she feels much better by the weekend.

Our favorite part about the trip was listening to CDs in the truck~
We listened and stopped to talk about it and asked/answered questions~ loved every minute of it!
It is SO amazing to listen to such great literature with my children and see their faces light up during a favorite part.

Funny story~
EK was on the phone talking to her dad after the visit and he asked her how it went...
she said- not so good, he asked- why, she said- I had to get a finger shot! :) {Finger Poke for bloodwork}
and you know when we get finger shots or regular shots,
we make a Target run... I was Joyful and Thankful she still had some birthday money in my wallet~
Thank you Aunt Jan and Aunt Susan for sponsoring our Target outing today~
you made her feel better after a tough morning!

The Library~

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

It's been a long time since we have been to the library but we took a little outing today.
I went looking for a few non fiction plant books and fiction chapter books on CD. We came home with a stack! Why?

Are you reading 7 yet?
Chapter 4 in 7 is messin' me up... Actually the whole book so far is messin' me up~
(Media) ~ A time slurper for sure.
{TV, DVR, Movies, Computer, FB, Twitter, Blogs, Video Games}
I know what you're thinking...
{Aren't books and CDs media?} um... yes BUT
reading and listening are good media, right?
Things to be done with my children not something to fill their time while I do something else.

We really don't watch a lot of tv but I am guilty of a little PBS during breakfast/lunch and maybe a little Nick, Jr during rest~ ok... so I guess that is a lot of tv if you also take into account they want a movie every time we get into our truck.
SO now we're trying
CDs in the truck and maybe a little computer time during rest.

Would you believe they didn't even notice it during meals today and only once at rest... we made it a whole day with NO TV, no video games, a little computer, and a whole LOT of reading.

I have been monitoring my tv time too not to mention computer and phone time.
Let's just say I am much more aware of how much I am on and am cutting way back.
Can't really expect my children to be up for it when they see me doing my own thing.

I would love to hear how you all are doing with 7~ easy or messin' with ya???

Nature Walk~

Monday, April 16, 2012

In anticipation of Earth Day on Sunday and EK missing a plant unit at school,
we designated this week would be a 'Nature' kind of week.
We pulled all our plant books, read a few today, talked about parts of plants,
and decided a nature walk was in order to solidify our new knowledge hands on~
Each one took a lunch bag out to collect the parts of a plant... flower, seeds, stem, leaves, and roots.
They had a ball searching, helping each other, and just being out for some fresh air.
Once the collecting was done, we sorted onto a big mat and labeled the groups.
It was a great Nature loving kind of day!
Sure hoping EK feels better tomorrow!

AND an update on precious Ivy Joy~
She's awake and getting stronger by the hour!
Praise God from Whom ALL blessings flow!!!

Phi Mu Family Picnic~

Sunday, April 15, 2012

We've had a few picnics lately but today's was SO wonderful.
Amelia's sorority, Phi Mu, invited families to enjoy a day at the park.
I LOVED seeing Amelia with all her precious sisters.
They are all some of the sweetest girls and truly love each other~
We brought the whole crowd~
Two Sundays in a row being together was just more than this mama could imagine.
My camera barely stopped snapping the whole time~
We enjoyed a great lunch catered by Panera, played a little corn hole, and just being together~
You would have never known EK was still under the weather~
After a little time playing on the playground~
we went back to Amelia's room to pack up a few of her things because in TWO weeks,
she will be HOME for summer and I for one can't WAIT!
{How can it be that her freshman year is coming to an end?}
Once again, it was the best of days and I am so thankful!!!
