Snapshot Sunday: Bubble Girl

Sunday, January 31, 2010

EK has not felt well all weekend and has been cold all day. Finally around 4 I asked if she would like to take a bubble bath to warm up... oh yes! Bath time is one of her favorite times of the day. She took her favorite baby in with her and played played played. I couldn't help but grab my camera for a snapshot or two or three. :)

Little Sick Girl

Friday, January 29, 2010

We have a very sick little girl today. She began running a fever yesterday morning and it got worse over the course of the day. It actually spiked to 104.6 in the night and back down to 103 this morning. I called our ped and took her in. Got to the dr and once they took her temp... 104.8, everyone began scrambling. They dosed her right away and had me put a cold cloth on her forehead. The nurse swabbed her throat because I suspected strep from the wonderful aroma coming from her breath... yuck! POSITIVE. Then a swab in the nose for flu... Negative but still possible. The doctor came in and listened to her breathing- fine but croupy. Then a look in the ears showed a double ear infection. So fever, croup, ear infections, strep, possible flu, and two scripts later, we are home by the fire! Stay clear of our house for a few days- we are in quarantine.

Here's a pic of her once we were home. Never know by really looking at her that she's sick. You know our tradition... a trip to dr for shots warrants a trip to Target for a toy. Well... don't you think two of those big long swabs halfway down your throat and one up both sides of your nose is the same as a shot??? I think so and it was the only way she was going to open wide enough to get a look. So we came home with a wonderful plastic snake and a beautiful flying horse she couldn't live without. She's resting comfortably on the sofa with lots of stuffed animals and blankets watching Max and Ruby... and hoping for a tiny bit of snow! :)

Proud EK

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

EK spent a couple of hours with my mom this morning. She watched a show where they were wrapping presents and she wanted to do the same. My mom had some little jewelry boxes and asked EK if she would like to wrap them. Of course but not without something in them... so on the way home, she began to pull the boxes out and unwrap them. Inside were some 'beautiful' treasures. She didn't even know what they were... broaches. I showed her how to pin them on her coat so what do you think she wanted to do? Oh yes, she wanted to wear them both. And can I just say, she was SO proud walking through the store today. Thanks mom for making her so happy!!!

Taken with my IPhone

And now she is so excited about putting little things in the boxes and giving them to everyone. :)

ShayleeJoy: It's a Long Post

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

The miracle of ShayleeJoy began in out hearts as soon as we held our sweet EllaKate in China on March 27, 2006. The blessing of your child through adoption is no different than the blessing of a child through birth. I have experienced both and all have been perfect gifts from God. I can't put into words the feelings that welled up in me when I took EllaKate into my arms that amazing day, but I do know without a shadow of a doubt... she was born to be our daughter and our James 1:17 baby.

So in 2007, we began the paper chase for SJ as non special needs and logged in on June 20, 2007 thinking we might have a 24 month wait. We have now been waiting 31 months with no end in sight. For the last 6 months or so we have prayed about the whole situation. We have also prayed whether God would want us to adopt through special needs. Lots of friends along the way have encouraged us (you ALL know who you are!) and God has certainly given us many opportunities to be with other families for support. We have also had so many people praying for us along the way as well.

Just since the year turned to 2010, Scott and I have been in fervent prayer about what God's will was for our adoption. Along with the many prayers of family, friends, and even people I have never met, God began showing us His will. I had been praying for God to speak to me about what He wanted us to do. I needed to Hear from Him. Sunday a week ago while in the worship service, I heard God say plain and simple, "If you are just on the NSN track, you are saying you aren't willing to adopt SN." I had never thought about it like that. I felt like God was leading to SN for the first time and I shared this with Scott. Wish I could say God spoke those same words into Scott's heart and we could just tie it all up in a neat little bow... but it took a very painfully emotional evening of discussion to hear Scott say he was hearing God's will through me and if I felt so strongly about this, he agreed and we needed to move forward.

You wouldn't believe how many people told me God would tell Scott the same thing He was telling me if it were to be. I have learned God speaks in so many ways... through the heart, through other people, through His Word. I heard Him through my heart, Scott heard him through me and others, and now I have the most exciting part to share with you!!!

I have a very sweet friend in Atlanta that has been my mentor through these few weeks. She has listened and suggested and listened and suggested and yesterday, I finally stepped out in faith and made a call to our agency to switch our preference to SN. Now we wait for our social worker to update our home study and we have to update our fingerprints, all while God works out the timing for us to find our sweet ShayleeJoy.

After that was said and done, I sat down to my last day of homework for bible study. We are doing Beth Moore's rewritten study- Breaking Free. We are on week 2 and I was working on day 5: EnJOYing the Presence of God. I began working and came to the first scripture Isaiah 43:5, "Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your CHILDREN from the east and gather you from the west." Next to the scripture I had written... EllaKate's verse on her announcement and added ShayleeJoy- switched to SN today 1/25/10.

The next scripture took me to Psalm 139:9-10, "If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast." Next to that scripture I had written 3/27/06 In China and God gave this scripture to me on the day I will hold her for the first time. I added 1/25/10 Shine the way to ShayleeJoy Jesus!

Next I was sent to Psalm 16:11, "You have made known to me the path of life, you will fill me with JOY in your presence, with eternal pleasure at your right hand." Right in the middle of the verse was her name JOY. I had written by the verse... Joy- abiding in God. I added 1/25/10 I found my JOY by abiding in You and seeking Your will for our life.

Now go back to the title of the homework: EnJOYing the Presence of God... I have complete confirmation through God's Word He is sending us to China to get ShayleeJoy. I am so thankful He has called us to this amazing journey and look prayerfully to the day we see her face for the first time.

I have to copy exactly what Beth Moore said in her lesson... "I hesitant to say all this because I would be sickened to think I might sound proud of my relationship with God. Please hear my heart when I tell you that the greatest joy in my life is the very thing I have deserved the least. I consider the ability to love Him and enjoy Him an absolute gift of grace... one He will gladly extend to anyone who offers Him her whole heart."

If any of you know me... Scott, mama, Marcia, Amy, bible study girls, adoptive mom friends, you all know I have cried and anguished over wanting God's will over my will. I knew very well He might close the door and I was praying for Him to prepare me for that. I know full well there is always an answer... there was a time when He said No two times, then sent us for EK, then we waited for so long, and now He is sending us to get SJ! I am so humbled and excited to watch Him bring her to our family. We have just begun this journey and have an uphill climb to China financially. I know God is sending us and HE will prepare the way. More to come later of possible fund raising projects. In the meantime, let's give Him all the glory and praise Him for all His blessings!!!

Sunday Snapshot

It was the best of weekends. Sav & Josh came Friday and left tonight after the first football game. We enjoyed just doing nothing and being home. Love and already miss them both!!!

The Girls: A, R, & EK

Saturday, January 23, 2010

EK and I joined Sheryl and Madelyn for a play date @ Stacie and Myla's house yesterday. All six girls both moms and daughters enjoyed hanging out... playing, talking, and eating. It is so wonderful to have a support group as we mother our precious girls from China. Even with such different backgrounds and provinces, they all share a common bond- never to be broken. I am thankful we all have each other!!!

Mill & Rosie have had wonderful things going on in their lives too. Mill helped draw and paint a mural @ the MS. She was actually featured in the local newspaper this week. Rosie has had a great basketball season of cheering. Next week begins playoffs and tennis season kicks off for both of them!

EK's Lifebook

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Many adoptive families are familiar with Life Books for their children. Each of the girls have a baby book that records all the details of their baby life and it is so important that I do the same for EK. The difference being I don't have pics of EK as an infant. The earliest photo is her referral pic at 7 months. I was able to find some pics via orphanage website and pics taken with a camera I sent to her orphanage when I found out where she lived. In her life book, I will take the photos and stories I have from her translated paperwork and tell her life story and forever family. I will talk about China and it's customs, people, and places. I want her to know where she was born and always be proud of her country!

Because I was able to get caught up on family scrapbooks, I am now able to focus on EK's life book. I worked on 3 pages yesterday and thought they turned out sweet. If you have made a Life book for your child, please share you ideas and suggestions. I look forward to working on this book of love for EK!

Precious Friends

Saturday, January 16, 2010

EK & I were able to enjoy a play date with Madelyn and Sheryl Thursday. The girls played so well and enjoyed themselves completely. I am still amazed God put both our families in the same small town with precious girls blessed to us from China.

Scrapbook Marathon

For the last 2 weeks I have worked diligently at night creating my 2008 and 2009 family scrapbooks. I was SO behind. It always a labor of love. My favorite thing is reliving so many wonderful memories and looking at how much the girls have changed. Makes me realize how precious the here and now is and so important to cherish even the smallest of moments. So if you have any interest... here they are. Created in PSE7.

Happy 2010!

Saturday, January 2, 2010

Hope this post finds everyone happy and healthy this new year. Love that the year is an even number again- my OCD thing again. Anyway, I am never really successful with resolutions so I'm not really making any. If I were to make any, I would want to STAY diligent with my walk with Christ and catch up/stay current with my scrapbooking. Ok so maybe I will make those priorities this year and just see how I do.

NYE was a quiet one for us. Savannah and Amelia were both with friends so we made soup, watched football, shot fireworks, and watched the ball drop. Rosie and EK LOVED the sparklers... I remember loving them when I was a little girl too. I would pretend to be a baton twirler that twirled fire- so fun.

We didn't know it at the time but our dog Fisher got scared and hid away from the fireworks way into the night. We feared he might be gone for good because he has never left for that long. When I got up Friday morning, the first thing I did was go check on him. I was so relieved to find him sitting on his bed safe and sound. I can't tell you how happy Scott and the girls were! Lesson learned... make sure Fisher is up by dusk on a firework shooting evening.

I did get working on my scrapbooking today. I worked on four layouts from the end of 2009 and two from yesterday. We had a wonderful New Years Day going to Scott's brother Larry's house for lunch. He always cooks the biggest meal complete with peas, collards, and all the fixings- delish! There were at least 40 people there and it is always such a fun time to catch up from the holidays or even the past year. EK sure has lots of little cousins to play with.
