EK's First Field Trip

Friday, September 25, 2009

As I sent EK off to school yesterday, I was so thankful I would be meeting her at Jumpy Jumps here in town for her first field trip. I posted on FB how sick I felt sitting in the parking lot waiting on the bus to arrive with my baby inside. As you can see below, she emerged as 'Miss Big'- the line leader and ready for some fun.

Needless to say they are had a BALL! I could barely get them to stop for a few photos- OK lots!!! They ran and jumped the entire time and were worn completely out when it was time to go.

And yes those are Socks & Crocs... she went to school with her Crocs on but had to wear socks at the jumpy place so she got off the bus wearing both- I thought it was adorable!

All in all it was a very fun trip and when it was time go, I asked EK if she would just like to ride back to school with me to get her things... to which she replied, "No Mom, I think I will ride the bus with my friends." She was the cutest thing walking back to the bus in the line. I guess she is flying, huh?!? :)

The Rain

We had tons of rain Sunday and Monday of which we really needed. A&EK had a ball playing in the giant puddles- all fun and games but not so inside our house. We had two roof leaks, water coming in under our doors and our basement flooded. Luckily it only soaked half the carpet so we pulled it back, tore out the padding, dried it with a giant fan and now need our carpet man to come back out and repair the damage. Needless to say, all the furniture is pushed to my sewing side of the room and no sewing is being done. It will make sewing all the more exciting when everything is back to normal.

Party in Atlanta!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Sarah, Amelia's BBF wanted to take her 17th birthday party on the road-Atlanta! Cyrise asked if I might want to go hang out with her and 7 wonderful teenage girls. Of course! The biggest part was leaving EK. It was all I could do to drive out of my driveway leaving her behind. She was in the best of hands with her dad and sister but still I haven't been away from her at night much at all. I knew I needed to do this with Amelia so we headed out. We had a wonderful time!!! Stayed down in Buckhead and ate at Maggiano's- Sarah's favorite restaurant (mine too)! It was so fun at our hotel because there was an retired NBA player reunion going on hosted by Dr. J so the girls had a ball trying to figure out who they all were- I had NO idea!!! We headed back home Sunday morning and were glad to tell the girls we would go anywhere with them- they were absolutely delightful to be around! Cyrise and I had a great time getting to know each other better as well. Here are a few pics from our trip.

Children's Learning Activities Blog

Friday, September 18, 2009

I just wanted to share a new blog my s-i-l Amy found. It's called Children's Learning Activities and one of the authors is from the Babywise blog. This blog has lot of great ideas for activities you can do with your baby, toddler or preschooler to make learning more fun. Even teachers (like myself) still need ideas on things we can do! It's fairly new so I'm sure they will continue to add to it...hope you enjoy it!

This week EllaKate's class celebrating E week. E for EllaKate of course so I volunteered to come up with an E snack. I toasted Eggo waffles and spread strawberry cream cheese on top, added an icing E and some sprinkles- they were a big hit! Now what to do for F...

Don't his eyes just pull you in and isn't that just the sweetest face? Here are some of my favorites PLUS he was really walking everywhere today!!! :)

New School Idea: Spelling Sticks!

Every afternoon EK and I work on school together and I try to focus on three main areas: literacy (phonics and reading), writing, and math. I have shared my letter stick idea with you all before but this week we enhanced it just a bit. I found some sparkly foam letters at Walmart and had EK stick them on each stick while I wrote out an ABC letter line. The first activitiy I had her do is just matching the letters (I have lower case letters on the opposite of letter line. Then I took out the white board and we built words- I said the word, she sounded it, and I wrote on the board. Then she found the letter sticks and placed them order to build the word. It was a very fun game. And the last pic shows a really cool letter writing game called Scribble and Write I bought her that allows her to practice writing each of the letters.

I just had another idea pop in my head. Stick the letters on clothes pins and have you child squeeze them onto the letter line. They could pin them onto something else to build words.

Homecoming for Rosie

Rosie's school, HCMS, played their homecoming game this past Saturday. Rosie was asked to be on Bullpup court escorted by Dakota. She looked so beautiful as did all of her friends! Here are a few pics from the game and afterwords, Scott and I chaperoned the dance- that was so fun- watching the kids just be kids!!!

Labor Day Weekend

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Our weekend was a really relaxing one for the most part. The girls went on a retreat with their youth group and Sav was away with Josh. That left the Three... and I was not feeling well at all... so that left Two. Scott and EK spent a lot of time together outside in the yard. I had no energy but watched from inside and loved seeing them together! EK would stay outside ALL day if someone would stay out with her and that is pretty much what she was able to do over the weekend. We were all back together on Monday and even though I still was weak, we took our boat for a short while for the last time this summer. We had a ball- the girls rode the tube and Rosie skiied for the first time ever and got right up- it was Awesome!!! The water was soooo cold but not as cold as our pool. Anyway, the boat has been put away for the season and we already look forward to the day we pull it back out!!! Here are a few pics from the weekend!

Finding my Way: Letting EK fly...

I begin this post writing with very raw emotions so bear with me. I posted on FB last Wed:
Life went in a completely different direction today... I actually took EK to 'visit' preschool for many reasons. I would appreciate any prayers lifted for us as we ALL make adjustments to what we THOUGHT our life looked like. God is SO amazing and does amazing things in my life everyday. I am so blessed and want to make my life a living sacrifice for Him!

Scott and I pray daily about the direction of our family and for some time, I have prayed where God was leading me... All along, I have been adamant about home schooling EK and God has shown me, she can have both worlds right now. I was feeling a need to help our family financially in some way and have an opportunity to teach very part time in the mornings @ a local elem. school. So EK and I visited preschool together again yesterday and she loved it. She knew over half her class and her day flowed very similar to a day I might have had in K: welcome, calendar, dancing and movement (twice), sheet work, storytime (twice), snack, art and painting, free center play. She also went to chapel and out for playtime on playground. She had a ball and definitely loved it. We enjoyed Happy Meals as a special treat together and returned home to hear her say, "Can we do REAL school now?"- that was music to my ears... God saying- "I'm not replacing what you were doing here at home, just adding to it"... so WHY? you may be asking... did you need to put her in preschool?

As I said, I have been given an opportunity to teach very part time at a local elementary school starting sometime in October and I would be able to that in the mornings plus I am hoping to sub at preschool too. It won't be a huge salary but it will be helping our family in a small way while giving EK the experience of being with sweet friends and learning too.

So I entitled this post- Finding my Way. Today was an extremely tough day for me. It is the very FIRST time I had driven away leaving EK at a building for an extended period of time. I walked her in, stood at the door while she unpacked, and then backed away to see her sitting on the carpet with big eyes looking at me (no tears) :). I sat out in the waiting area for a long time and God gave me the courage to stand up and leave her for a short while. I could not wait to pick her up and see what she had to say... Her teacher said she had a GREAT day and she said she wanted to go back tomorrow!

Why am I Finding my Way? Because for 3 wonderful years, EK has been with me and SHE was what I did with my time and I LOVED IT!!! This morning I was LOST without her. It was nauseating to leave her but God reminded me:

“You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while, ‘He who is coming will come and will not delay’” (Hebrews 10:36–37 NIV)

So here's a trustworthy equation: Little Faith + Big God = Huge Results! - You take your little faith; "Lord, I believe! Help me with my unbelief!" - And you place your faith in our big God. And then he'll show you how he works out huge results.

All that to say... I believe God lead me to this place in my life and He is blessing our family. I hope all my home school friends understand where I am coming from and know I am still doing it with you just in a different way. We shall see where God leads us next year but for now we are all just fine and know that He already knows and will lead the way. I guess I've Found my Way after all- JUST FOLLOW!!! Whew!

Heaven is the Face

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Just downloaded the new song by Steven Curtis Chapman "Heaven is the Face". I look at the face of Heaven everyday when I look into each of my daughters' faces... God chose each of them for me and I am so very thankful to be their mom. You gotta take a listen on itunes.
