A Beautiful Blessing

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

You may already know I am the oldest of 4 children. Jason is the youngest and was born when I was 11 years old, so he was a doll when mama brought him home. I kid him all the time about changing his diapers (cloth ones that I had to wash out in the toilet). Anyway, he has always been so very precious to me and for years we all prayed for his soul mate whom we knew was out there and just had to find him. Way up in Michigan, God told a beautiful girl to move to Georgia to take a teaching position in Gwinnett county. Already teaching there was a friend of Jason's and she fixed them up on a blind date. As God already knew, they fell in love, got married, and now are expecting their own little blessing at the end of August. Yesterday, Amy and Jason had a 3D ultrasound and were given this amazing picture of their little one. Up until yesterday, they had decided they didn't want to know the sex, but before going back they both agreed they would. Can you guess? Yes, it is a precious baby boy and Jason says from the look of him... very intellectual- already trying to figure everything out. Can I say how out of the park, head over heels, double fudge sundae, slam dunk, over joyed we are that they are moving here this summer. As a matter of fact, we will be moving to a new house in July and they will move into this house. We sold a rental house we had had on the market for 2 years, and we lease/purchased our Hamilton Mill house. How amazing that God has worked out every detail.

Savannah is Home

Monday, April 28, 2008

Yes, Savannah is home for the summer, although she leaves Saturday for a week @ the beach... oh the life of a college student. She and a group of her friends are headed to Florida before they officially begin their time @ home. I remember the transition of being away at school on my own and coming home for the summer... big adjustment. Savannah says this is going to be the best summer ever- I think so too!

She and Scott were in Atlanta yesterday for Amelia's tennis team finals. They were playing Riverwood HS is the second rounds of state playoffs. Riverwood was phenomenal and won all of the matches. Amelia and Sarah gave them the best run for their money on the team... 6-1, 6-3. Even though we didn't come away with the win, we are still sooooooooooo proud of our Lady Bulldogs!!! Amelia had an awesome first year of tennis and plans to go to a couple of camps this summer. Oh, and she drove home on the interstate from Atlanta... she gets her license in July!

Super Sunday

We met Savannah and Josh at Blackshear Place Baptist in Flowery Branch today. Josh's brother, sister-in-law, and nephew (Zach, Jennifer, and William) were there too. I know Jennifer through her blog and was thrilled to meet her and her family in person! The worship service was so great! EllaKate's funny thing today: while sitting in the sanctuary before it started, EllaKate said, "Mom, this is just like the Lion King!" Hilarious! She fell asleep about half way through the service. After church we all met for lunch at a great Mexican restaurant. Savannah transferred a big load of her stuff from school and headed back for her last final tomorrow @ 1. Then... she is home for the summer!!! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

A Fun Saturday

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

Saturday was a great day of just hanging out. Scott and I had some quality time with the big girls individually: I took Amelia to get her eyebrows done, and Scott took Rosie to lunch then around town for errands- nothing big- just time. They both said last night what a great day it had been.

Jessi, my niece, came by on her way to dinner before prom. We were able to shoot some pictures and EllaKate said she looked like a princess. We thought so too!!! They were going to Athens for dinner and then back to the Cateechee for the dance.

That evening, we invited my mama and daddy, Susan and Tony, and Cathy and Jeff over for dinner. We ordered BBQ and made all the sides. I made homemade ice cream and Susan brought a cake to celebrate Tony's birthday coming up April 29. We enjoyed having everyone over and celebrating a very special person's birthday!!! Happy Birthday Tony!!!

Flowers

Sunday, April 20, 2008

Today EllaKate went to our local Ace Hardware Store to buy flowers for our pots and flower beds. We bought 2 wagons full of flowers, 2 ferns, and a huge bag of potting soil. We came home and got to work. EllaKate used her sand shovel to help put soil in the pots. It was the best of days- I LOVE YARD WORK!!! Now it really feels like spring.

My Scrapbooks

Saturday, April 19, 2008

I sometimes look at EllaKate and wish she could tell me everything she is thinking about. We were out getting birthday wrapping for Rosemary's friend and EllaKate spotted the cutest picnic basket. (Her eyes lit up so big!) She immediately said, "We can have a picnic, mama." Of course we could! I let her get the basket and then... she found a bug basket. While at the school earlier we observed a caterpillar (a little science lesson) and looked for it again when we came out. We couldn't find it anywhere but I reassured EllaKate we would look for one at home so I bought the bug basket to watch the metamorphosis of a beautiful butterfly- we used to do this every year when I taught kindergarten. Hope you enjoyed the slideshow of our picnic party!!!

While having a picnic with EllaKate and Jason (slideshow to come!!!), the DHL delivery van pulled up to drop off my SCRAPBOOKS!!!!! What a great day! I could barely wait to tear them open. I ran back around to the back, sat down on the blanket, and began pouring through them. Let me tell you what a feeling of accomplishment to sit and look at all the memories, stories, and pictures on each page. Wish I had a video of EllaKate seeing herself and all the people she knows on each page. She kept gasping as we turned the pages. I probably would have done the same, but Jason was there with us. I didn't want to go overboard about it but... I LOVE THEM!!! I look forward to sharing them with anyone who would want to see them!!! A great day!!!

Today I went to Amelia's school to have a conference with her math teacher. EllaKate went right along with me as she goes pretty much everywhere I do. She took her Vera with crayons and paper to do 'school' while I talked. We sat down at the table and Ella worked hard on her 'work'. She has a little snack and then got down to explore. I heard her rattling around in my purse but I was listening closely to the teacher. I finally looked around to see what Ella was doing and she was frantically searching for my mirror. I asked why she needed and she looked at me and pursed her lips... She had taken out my lipstick tube, perfectly applied lipstick to both lips, and wanted to check it out. I had to laugh and the teacher was amazed EllaKate did such a great job. Of course I snapped pics with my phone as soon as the conference was over. We had to make a Wal-mart run and we got a few stares as if people were thinking... "I can't believe that lady lets her 3 year old wear lipstick like that." Oh well, I thought it was adorable and EllaKate definitely thought she was beautiful!!! Better to work on self esteem than to worry about what other people think... right? Right!!!

Amelia~ Tennis

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

EllaKate and I spent the day @ the courts with Amelia's tennis team @ Oconee Co HS in Athens today for Regional Finals. Amelia and her friend Sarah played doubles 2. They won their first match and lost their second. Their team placed second in the region and will go on to state finals next week. EllaKate had a ball being outside ALL day. Needless to say, she was gone in a flash when I put her down for the night.

Amelia's tennis team is in the state finals and they played @ home in the first round today. They played 3 single matches and 2 doubles matches. Amelia always plays 2 doubles with her best friend Sarah and they won today. The team won 4 of the matches to advance to the next round! They are very excited and we are waiting to hear who they will play next. Way to go, Mimi!!!

Everyone says they look like twins and honestly on the court... we can hardly tell them apart... usually only us moms can tell who is who.

A Cute Convo

Today EK and I were working on puzzles together and I asked her who loved her thinking she would say Mama.

EK: God
Me: Where does He live?
EK: With Jesus.
Me: Where does Jesus live?
EK: The Zoo :-)
Me: NOOOOOOO
EK: My heart.
Me: Where else?
EK: In Heaven.
Me: What does God tell you?
EK: Don't cry Ella!
Me: What does Jesus tell you?
EK: Be sweet.

I stand amazed that such a little mind can fathom so much!!!

A Girl's Best Friend

Scott said what could be better than a warm day just hanging out with your big dog! We shot lots of video yesterday but this one was the last and just shows how comfortable EK is with Fisher.

Spring Break

Friday, April 11, 2008

We drove up to Dahlonega to see Savannah. We picked her up after class and went to lunch. We also went by her dorm to see her friends. They always love to see the girls. We are on a spending diet (need to sell our houses) so there was no shopping- just up and back. Scott took the girls to play tennis again and then we got our run in. It was the perfect spring break day.

Yesterday was day three - no time to post. The day was spent spring cleaning. Amelia and Rosemary helped Scott in the yard while EllaKate and I worked in the house. Everyone changed out their clothes from winter to summer- what a refreshing feeling. Amy's parents were up visiting with Amy and Jason so we all went to Cateechee for dinner- so delicious!

Today we are off to Atlanta after Amelia gets a private tennis lesson. We are meeting Savannah and Josh for dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory downtown and then to the Atlanta Civic Center for the 8:00 Lion King show. It will be a late night, but I'm sure it will be worth it!

A day late posting again but... we didn't get home until 1am. Amelia had a tennis lesson yesterday and afterwards, the girls and I left for Atlanta. We ate lunch and did a little shopping. Amelia had some birthday money that was burning a hole and I had Gymbucks to spend- (can't let those go to waste!!!) Now back to that spending diet :-).

We met Scott and went downtown for dinner @ Old Spaghetti Factory. Savannah and Josh met us there too. After a fantastic dinner, we enjoyed The Lion King show @ the Atlanta Civic Center. It was amazing!!! EllaKate only took a 30 min catnap yesterday so we were wondering how she would do. Guess what? She watched every minute in my lap on the edge of her seat. She took in every detail and said some of the cutest things. When the show first started all the animals came down the aisles and she turned around to me and said, "Did they let all the animals out of the zoo?" I said, "Yes!" She just clapped and clapped as if they had all been rescued!!! Also @ intermission, she thought it was over. We told her there was more and she said, "We get to watch it again?" It was a great evening!!!
