EK's Shots

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

Today we went to Dr. Morgan's for Ella Kate's well appointment. We knew we would probably redo her immunizations, but we were in for more than we bargined for. Dr. Morgan wanted to take blood so she could run tests for HIV and Hepatitis B. It took 4 people (me, Scott, Dr. Morgan, and a nurse) to keep her still, and three different spots to find blood. Dr. Morgan said Ella Kate was definitely the strongest of the Ankerich girls. We will get results in about 2 days. After that big ordeal, Ella was asleep, but we still had to get the shots. The nurse came in and gave Ella 4 shots, 2 in one leg and 2 in the other. She cried of course again but was asleep as soon as I held her again. She slept for about 2 hours and woke up happy! She was glad to be back home with Mama and her sisters. The only question she had was, "Where is my Daddy???" Have a great day!!!

Party for EK

Sunday, April 23, 2006

My two sweet friends, Suzanne Cain and Suzanne Eason, gave Ella Kate a wonderful party on Sunday. We invited many friends from church and the neighborhood as well as family. It was so fun to see and talk to everyone about our trip to China and how well Ella Kate is doing. We received many wonderful gifts, and Ella Kate loved them all! We appreciate all the many people that have showered us with gifts, love, and prayers. We are very thankful to be so blessed. The thank yous will be in the mail soon!!!

EK is really Walking

Saturday, April 22, 2006

Ella Kate is really wanting to walk! We took the seat off of her walker and made a push toy. She can stand behind it and walk along. She thinks it so fun when Amelia makes her go fast and run. Ella Kate is pulling up and wants to take steps. She loves to hold your fingers and get where she wants to go.

We have had a difficult time getting Ella to sleep in her bed or pack-n-play, so today, I took the mattress out of the pack-n-play for naptime. She layed right down and was alseep in no time. She still cried when she woke up because she doesn't want to be alone. She is doing amazing well, and we are very thankful!!!

Playing in the Yard

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

Yesterday, Ella Kate and I went to do a little shopping. Scott had said Ella needed a hat to wear when I took her walking so the sun wouldn't be in her eyes. We found this Atlanta Braves hat. Ella Kate does not like to have anything on her head. You know the hooded baby towels? Well, she won't let me put the hood on her. She didn't like the hat either, but she let us take a few pictures with it on. I plan to put it on her in the stroller once she is asleep. She takes a nap everyday when we are out for a walk.

After the shopping trip, we went to a party at Scott's office, Scientific Atlanta. They celebrated the adoption of Ella Kate with cake. We enjoyed talking to everyone. They gifted us with a very generous gift certificate to Babies R Us. We appreciate their kindness so much!!!

Playing in the Yard

The girls had fun playing in the yard with Walkie Talkies. They were playing hide-and-seek with some friends. Amelia hid in the garage and Rosie hid in the tree beside the garage. Scott grilled steaks for dinner, and we all sat down for a wonderful dinner as a family. This was one of the rare nights we are all home and nowhere to go.o.

He is risen! He is risen indeed!!!

We had a wonderful Easter! The Easter bunny visited in the night and left some great surprises. He hid eggs all over the downstairs and the girls helped Ella Kate find them all. We got dressed for church. All the girls looked beautiful. Last week, we only went to Sunday school, but we plannned to stay the whole time yesterday. Timing was perfect; we went into service and Ella was asleep within 10 minutes and slept through it all. She woke up when we were walking to Sunday school. She had a great time at church. We went to lunch with Jason and Morgan's family. It was a fun time. That afternoon was spent resting, playing, and going to get frozen yogurt!!! We had a very blessed day!!!

EK's Orphanage

Sunday, April 16, 2006

We were able to send a care package to Ella Kate when we received our referral. In the package, we sent a disposable camera. On Ella Kate Day, we were given the photo album and the camera back that we sent. We took it to Target and developed the pictures. These are a few of Ella Kate in the orphanage. There are actually some of the babies adopted in our travel group in the pictures. We are so thankful God chose her to be our daughter!!!

Riding in her Car

Saturday, April 15, 2006

Amelia and Rosie cleaned the little car up so Ella Kate take a ride. She loves being outside so she loved it! The wind was blowing her soft hair and she was so serious about the ride. Ella Kate also loves Fisher, and she had her eye on him the whole time she was riding. Tonight, Scott and I went to Target for a few things, and I picked up the pictures that were taken with the camera we sent to Ella's orphanage. The pictures were almost too much to take in. I had to get her out of bed and hold her for a long time to let her know how thankful we are God chose us to be her mom and dad. I will post them maybe tomorrow if I have time. Happy Easter Eve to you all!!!

Our Yard

Tuesday, April 11, 2006

Today was a great day! Ella Kate felt the best she has felt since we left China. The medicine has made her feel so much better! We took her outside for a while this evening to try and keep her awake a little longer. She loves to be outside. My sister, Marcia, and her two children have been here since we came home, so we wanted to take some pictures with them. Ella has really started to keep her eye on Fisher, our dog. She is fascinated by him. He likes her too. We continue to adjust great - still a little jet lagged but coping. Hope you like the pictures of Ella!

Homeward Bound

Monday, April 10, 2006

Well, you probably thought we were never going to blog again, but we have been so busy and tired. I really never knew what jet lag was about but now I do. We had a very challenging trip home. We arrived in Hong Kong on the train and checked in to the hotel. We were up and out to the airport by 6:00am. Our flight was on time and we departed on time. About one hour into the flight, an engine blew and we were forced to turn back for Hong Kong. After three hours of a layover and an airline change, we left for the US bound for LAX. Our flight was about 12 hours. Ella Kate had a difficult flight. None of us were able to sleep any. When we arrived in LA, we found out all flights out were booked, and we could only get home by separating into two different flights. Savannah, Ella Kate, and I were going to fly straight to Atlanta; Scott, Amelia, and Rosemary were to fly through Florida and then to Atlanta. After three hours of talking, Scott was able to get us booked with Delta, all on one flight, and we would leave at 1:30am and land around 5:30 Friday morning. We were greeted at the airport by the limo once again, and made it home about 6:20am Friday (Ella Kate's BD!!!) We worked very hard to stay awake all day. We enjoyed having company and celebrating a great day!!! We are so thankful to be home!!!

EllaKate's First BD Party

Sunday, April 9, 2006

On Sunday, we had family and friends over to celebrate Ella Kate's first birthday. She hasn't felt very well since we got home, so she was alseep when it was time for her party. We didn't have the heart to wake her up. We had bought a really cool candle in China that when lit, opened into a lotus flower and played Happy Birthday. The theme of her birthday was ladybugs. Ladybugs are a good luck symbol in China for adoptions. We enjoyed a delicious ladybug cake, and Ella Kate wore a cute ladybug outfit we bought in China. We opened some great presents, and Ella woke up after everyone went home. She still was not feeling well this morning, so I took her to the doctor. She had double ear infections and is now on an antibiotic. She felt much better this afternoon, and we hope she can sleep better tonight.

Jason's Shower

Saturday, April 8, 2006

Jason and Amy had a bridal shower in Hartwell on Saturday. Scott's mom has been in the hospital the whole time we were in China. We really needed to go to Hartwell for both reasons. This was Ella Kate's first carseat ride. She did great and went right to sleep. She was the big thing every where we went. MaMa Ankerich was so happy to see her for the first time! We are praying so much that she will get well and be able to come and see Ella Kate. We really enjoyed the day!

Tuesday, April 4, 2006

Yesterday, we went to the Pearl Market here in Guangzhou. We were able to buy 4 bracelets, a necklace, and earrings wholesale. We also bought some DVDs for the girls to watch on the way home. The greatest thing that happened was our friends from Atlanta, Shane and Beverly arrived here and will get their baby today!!! We went down stairs to see if they were here and as soon as we saw each other, we all screamed and hugged. It was so amazing to see someone from home here in China!!! We are going for our consulate appointment today 4:00 and then catch a train to Hong Kong. We will fly out tomorrow morning at 8:30 with layovers in Tokoyo and Minn. We arrive in Atlanta at 5:45. We should be hone around 8:30pm. I guess this is goodbye from China. The next time we post we will be back in Dacula, GA. We love all of you and thank you for reading our blog and praying for us!!!

Physical Exam

Monday, April 3, 2006

Today was Ella Kate's physical exam for her visa and consulant appt. We had to be there about 9:45. There were tons of people there from adoptive families to local people. There was a separate area for the adoptive families. Our whole group went back and waited for our turn. A very nice lady in our group took our family photo. We had to take Ella to three different check-up areas. We went to the general doctor first. He checked her skin, bones, and head. He thought she was great and sent us to the next area. We then went to the weight, height, and temp. Ella Kate weighed 19.5 pounds. I think they said she was in the top 75% for her height. We then moved on to the ENT. She checked Ella's hearing, ears, and looked down her throat. She checked put great in all areas. We were free to go. We stopped by a few shops on the way back to hotel and finished our gift shopping. We all came back for Ella's bottle and naptime. We all rested for about 2 hours and off to eat a midday meal at Lucy's. We went to a great Thai restaurant last night. It was really spicy and we all liked it!!! We are glad that we will be home in 3 days!!! Love to all!!!
