EK's Orphanage

Sunday, January 29, 2006

I have joined a maillist for children that were adopted from the orphanage, Qianjiang SWI where Ella Kate lives. There are many pictures and they have been so interesting to see. I wanted to post a picture of Ella's orphanage and what it looks like inside.

FedEx Delivery

Today I was up at 6:00am and on the treadmill because I could not sleep any longer. I was so excited that today FedEx would be bringing our Referral packet. I checked the website and put in the tracking number. It reported the package would arrive around noon. When we were waiting for the call yesterday, Scott and I noticed FedEx delivering @ 9:30 and 12:00.

We had a lot going on this morning: Rosemary had a tumbling team performance at MCHS, Savannah was taking Rosemary, and Amelia had a babysitting job. I had to stay home and wait for the Referral package!
As I sat at the computer this morning, I saw a truck coming up the hill. I ran to the front of the house and followed it to the end of our driveway. The driver stopped and I grabbed the camera. I started snapping pictures as soon as I got outside. He stepped out of the truck and I asked him if he knew what he was bringing me and he said YES! I opened it right in front of him and he went on and on about how cute Ella Kate was. He asked me tons of questions and then he was off. It was a great experience!!!

In the packet, we received updated pictures!!! :)

Match Day

Friday, January 27, 2006

Friday was one of the best days of our family's lives. Scott and I decided to let the girls stay home from school until the call came. We both got up early but the girls slept in. We all dressed in red to celebrate the red thread connection today!

Every one stayed busy reading, watching movies, doing laundry, paying bills, and I finished ALL the ironing - way overdue!!! The phone kept ringing and we would all jump up to see who it was - what did we do way back when there was no Caller ID??? We were all on pins and needles so finally about 12:10, Scott called CCAI to see if we were indeed getting a call.

The director of CCAI office in Atlanta was put on the phone and he told Scott he would be calling us in about 15 minutes. Sure enough at 12:35, the phone rang and the ID said Denver, CO!!!!!! All five of us tried to answer a phone, but we were unable to hear very well, so we hung up all but two. The girls listened with us as Dick Dietz began to tell us about Ella Kate.

He told us he was looking at the most beautiful little girl! He actually got choked up and asked us to bear with him. This was his first ever referral call and we were very honored that he was calling us. We began to listen and write furiously all the information, although he told us it would all be coming in the FedEx packet on Saturday. We still wanted to write down everything. We are posting pictures from the morning.

Introducing EllaKate Shuang Jiang Ankerich

We are so excited to introduce our precious baby girl!!!!!

One Month EK Day

Yesterday was Ella Kate's one month adoption day. We can not believe time is going so fast. Ella Kate loves the swing that Memommy and Aunt Amy gave her at the shower on Sunday. We go out a couple times each day to swing.

What can Ella Kate do now that we have had her for one month??? Well, she can eat with a spoon, drink from a sippy cup, say Dada-Mama-Nana-Hello, pull up and stand, walk holding your fingers, crow like a rooster, tell what Fisher says, and she cut her fifth tooth yesterday. We are loving every minute with Ella. The girls can barely go to school each day and can't wait to get back home in the afternoons. What a blessing!!!

Friday is the Big Day!

Thursday, January 26, 2006

Well, it is finally our turn!!! Scott called CCAI today and they confirmed we would be getting THE CALL tomorrow morning. Scott, the girls, and I are all staying home so we can see Ella Kate for the first time. What an amazing time that will be as a family! After we have to talked to CCAI, we will make copies of her picture, try to put it on this blog, and take the girls to school. On Saturday, we will wait for FedEx to deliver our package that has Ella Kate's real pictures and her translated paper work. We will then need to FedEx our acceptance of her! Hope we can sleep tonight!!!

It's True!!!

There was an update on the official CCAA website yesterday. They usually update after our US agency, CCAI does. Anyway, it is as follows.

1/24/06
We have learned that the CCAA has mailed the next group of matches. We anticipate receiving these matches by the end of the week. In addition, we have learned that the CCAA has posted the following message on their web site:
“The CCAA has finished the placement of children for the families whose adoption application documents were registered with our office before May 13, 2005.”

I had a dentist appointment for a root canal yesterday. During the day, I got a call from a friend, Susan Chapman, who is always in contact with people here in Atlanta and Colorado, CCAI. She said she had talked to the director of the Atlanta agency, and he was leaving yesterday morning at 11:30 to be in Colorado today when the referrals came in. We are still not positive we will get the CALL tomorrow but will know later in the day. If we will be getting our CALL tomorrow, I will not be at school. I will be sending the email forward that we receive and then post all pictures here on the blog.

In my quiet time yesterday, God gave me the verse, James 1:17:
"Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights." Immediately, I pictured the plane coming down with our precious baby's picture and information. What an amazing thought! As I sat and thought about the whole matching process, all I could think was that the people matching us with a baby thought they were in control of our match. Our match was covered with immense prayer and God had chosen Ella Kate long before her picture was given to the match room. Now as we wait to see her face tomorrow, it is all God's Will coming to fruition! All praise and glory goes to Him!!!

Have a blessed day!

1/23/06 CCAI Update!!!
We have learned that the CCAA has mailed the next group of matches. We anticipate receiving these matches by the end of the week. We do not know who will be included in this group.
That is all the information we have at this time. We will update this site when more information becomes available.

The Match Room

Thursday, January 19, 2006

Scott spoke with CCAI yesterday and they verified that our dossier is in the Match Room. Judy told him that it is hoped that they will complete the matches and mail the referrals by next Friday. That would mean we will get a call the following Tuesday, January 31. If the referrals are not mailed on January 27, they will not be mailed until around February 14 due to Chinese New Year celebrations. We are praying that they are mailed next week!!!

A friend of mine told me the match room is the room where our faces are matched with the face of our Ella Kate. The dossiers are spread out on tables with family faces showing. The Chinese are said to be excellent at reading faces. As they look at our family's faces, they are matching a baby to us. They place a baby face down beside our faces. It is thought that they come back each day and review what was matched the day before. This process started on Wednesday and we hope they will finish and mail by next Friday!

This is copied from a Chinese Website of the step we are on:
Step Three is Department 2 where the family is matched with a waiting child! The medical report of the child is reviewed one final time and that report and the child's small visa photo are forwarded to the family's agency. The intent is for the family to review the information and accept in writing the referral and return this approval back to the CCAA. Once received, the information is shared with the provincial officials. The mailing alone can take 2 weeks. Then, the Invitation to Travel letter is generated, and is personally signed (with a special red chop) by one of the two Vice Directors of the Center.

We are very excited that we are almost at match day!!!

Great News

Wednesday, January 18, 2006

This is the news we have waited so long to hear!!!!!

Traditional Child Referral Updates
1/18/06
We have learned that the CCAA is working on the next group of matches. We believe this group will include the rest of our April 2005 LID families. We hope that they will include some early May 2005 LIDs as well.

All praise goes to our awesome God!!! My verses of strength today have been:

Psalm 84: 5, 11-12
"Blessed are those whose strength is in You, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. For the Lord God is a sun and sheild; the Lord bestows favor and honor, no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O, Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in You.'

Psalm 86:17
"Give me a sign of Your Goodness, ... for You, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me."

I am sooooooooooooooooooooo excited. Scott is calling to see what this means exactly.

MLK Day

Tuesday, January 17, 2006

Waiting can be so hard but staying busy helps. On Monday, Savannah wanted to go looking for a prom dress. We went to David's Bridal and found the perfect one. We bought it and how crazy is this.... went to Babies 'R' Us and filled out a baby registry. Who buys a prom dress and signs up for a baby registry all in the same day? The mom of a 16, 13, 10, and ??? year old.

The newest rumor per the CCAI April maillist is:

Elizabeth writes...
Judy (representative at CCAI) told me that they haven't had any communication from CCAA, but they are still expecting/hoping for a batch before CNY. Her best guess is that if they do mail before CNY - CCAI will make calls around the 2nd - but she said if it doesn't come before CNY we are looking at mid Feb for matches. They have no idea how many days they are matching. We hope more than 1! It sounds more like CCAA is communicating less, not CCAI.

I hope and pray we hear something before the end of January. We are on such a time crunch now. It is looking more and more that the girls will have to stay behind when we go. That is very disheartening. We really want them to be there when they hand sweet Ella Kate to us! I have to keep telling myself to sit back and watch God work!!! HE KNOWS IT ALL!!!!!

Rosie's and EK's Room

Sunday, January 15, 2006

Scott and I had decided that we should have a special place for Ella Kate. The other girls already had their rooms set up and we didn't want to upset their whole lives. I decided to ask them how we could solve this dilemma. Rosie burst out shouting, "Me, Me, Me!" She wanted Ella to be her room. We knew for this to happen, we would have to take out a set of bunk beds and rearrange.

I talked to my mom and she said we could have one of her twin beds for Rosie. We went to Hartwell on Saturday and picked it up. We had every intention of working on this project tomorrow since it is a school holiday. But if you know me, I don't put things off that can be done now. So.... when we go home Saturday, Morgan and some of Savannah's friends came over to help take down one set of furniture and put up another set.

This is their room now that we have the beds set up. We are now going to have it painted a light green and will post the pictures when the room is complete. Rosie is so excited!!! All we need now is Ella Kate.

The Latest Rumor

Friday, January 13, 2006

As always, I have been reading the maillist posts. There have been rumors flying everywhere. Some say they will be mailed next week. I keep hearing that - when is going to be true!!!

Scott called CCAI in Colorado on Thursday and their prediction was that referrals would be mailed on Friday, January 26 or 27. We would then get a call on Tuesday or Wednesday. They are pretty sure it will be before the Chinese New Year.

It has really helped to read other blogs along the way. I am trying to figure out how to add links to this site. When I do, you can read about some of the babies that were just matched in early January.

What are we doing to pass the time?
Working of course.... and we have decided to put Ella Kate and Rosemary together in Rosie's room. That means we have to pack up the bunkbeds and move in a smaller bed for Rosie and the crib for Ella. Rosemary is SO excited about this new adventure. I hope to work on this Monday while we are home for holiday. Anyway, that's all for now.

Happy 10 month BD to Ella!!!!

A Friend of a Friend

Cathie Zinn is a friend of mine that lives in Bishop, Ga. near Athens. She has two very precious Chinese daughters as well as 3 wonderful biological children. She has a very good friend from church, Pat, who is in China right now adopting her daughter. The cool part of this is Pat is in the same province as Ella Kate but not the same orphanage although it is still very cool to watch her trip!!! I am posting her webshot site so if you want, you can bookmark Pat's site on your favorites list and check for new pictures each day. You know I will be!!! Still no word on our travel plans, but hope to hear soon!!!

The Newest Referrals

Friday, January 6, 2006

The package of referrals that was mailed from China last Friday made it to Colorado on Wednesday. All the families received their calls yesterday and have been posting pictures ever since. The babies are beautiful! With every picture, I think of what it would be like if I were seeing Ella Kate for the very first time. It is unimaginable!!!

We have heard no updates on when our referral is to be mailed. It was rumored that it would have been mailed today but our agency has no information. Maybe we will have news by this time next week. The referrals that were just received have a possible traveling date of February 19, so we are pretty sure it will be March before we go to China. Until then, I will continue to read about all the new babies that are to meet their forever family very soon.
